Krejci update:

Bruins still have $3,414,524.14 in cap space that's getting more and more valuable every day. If they maintain that level of flexibility until the trade deadline, they'll have the space to add $8m+ in salary without shedding any from the roster.

For next year, they have the following roster signed at $56,584,642.53 including Savard's contract and Eaves' buyout, and assuming $2.7m AAV for Rask and $1.3m AAV for Pouliot or his replacement:

Lucic - Krejci - Horton
Marchand - Bergeron - Seguin
Pouliot (RFA) - Peverley - Caron
XX - XX - XX
XX

Chara - Kampfer
Seidenberg - XX
Ference - McQuaid

Thomas
Rask (RFA)

That leaves about $8m to fill five spots, four of which can be filled for a combined $4m or so in by re-signing Paille/Campbell/Thornton and qualifying MacDermid. The remaining $4m for a defenseman sounds good to me is a buzzkill given my miscalculations but is still very manageable.

Looks good to me, although I think they'll definitely re-sign Kelly as well which cuts into that space, but not by too much.

I wonder when Savard will officially retire. After next season would be nice for obvious reasons, but after 13-14 is a reasonable assumption given that's when his actual paycheck really starts to dip.

PSK, I think you need to add Peverly's new contract to the chart.

Yet he appears to have added the numbers up correctly nonetheless. What kind of game are you trying to play here PSK?

Whoops. Added them correctly for this year, but yeah Pat Beverly's extension wasn't up there, and I had counted McQuaid's current AAV as his extension's, so both of those should be fixed in a sec.

The 2013 offseason is going to be interesting. Seguin, Lucic, Marchand, Horton and Thomas all are free agents of some sort. Seguin and Looch should get hefty raises, if their production continues to increase.

Thanks PSK et al.

So who is that top 4 D-Man who we can get for a salary between $3-4 million (Seidenberg money essentially)? No one in Providence jumps out especially if we are already counting on Kampfer to move into the bottom pair. Can Dougie be ready or do we lock someone in for 3-4 years and have Dougie fight it out with Kampfer/Bartkowski/Cohen/Warsofsky/Button for the 6-7 spot?

I sincerely believe it will be Hamilton, but that Kampfer may be moved for an upgrade if Hamilton doesn't have a Myers-esque start to his career. Depending on his bonuses, he should be slotting in at a ~$2.5-3.5m if hard bonuses stay in the new CBA.

Or, they could retain Corvo and have the same D-corps as this year except with Hamilton in Boychuk's spot.

I think they let Horton walk and fill his spot with Spooner or Knight. But, you're right, Chia will have to make some tough decisions that summer.

Taking a look at the cap situation after the Boychuk extension – next year’s current lineup:

Marchand – Bergeron – Seguin
Lucic – Krejci – Horton
XX – Peverley – Caron/Pouliot (RFA)
XX – XX – XX
XX

Chara – Boychuk
Seidenberg – Hamilton
Ference – McQuaid
Kampfer

Thomas
Rask (RFA)

Once again, including Eaves’s $258,333.33 buyout and assuming hard bonuses as well as $2.7m for Rask and $1.1m (Caron’s cap hit) for Caron, Pouliot, or his replacement, this lineup totals $56,610,000. I am not including Savard because the team could send Seguin & Kampfer down to the AHL on a paper move for the first cap day of the season to get under the cap with Savard on the roster then LTIR him. Given the cap uncertainty, let’s assume a $1.3m drop in the cap from the current $64.3m to $63m.

In this scenario, there are five forward slots to fill with $6,390,000 in cap space. Kelly looks to be in line for a Kopecky-type, 4 year/$3m AAV contract given Kopecky’s 15g-27a breakout year before hitting UFA, their similar penalty-killing acumen, Stanley Cup-champion pedigree, and age (Kelly is a year older). In my eyes, unless a move is made with Krejci, Kelly is as good as gone.
I believe all three of Paille/Campbell/Thornton will be retained at a ~ $1m raise on their collective AAVs this season - +$500k for Campbell ($1.6m AAV), +$325k for Paille ($1.4m AAV), and an even $1m cap hit ($178,500 raise) for Thornton. That leaves the Bruins with a 3rd line left-wing and 13th forward slot to fill with $2,390,000 in cap space. Bring up MacDermid on a two year, one-way $525,000 deal to be the 13th and that leaves space to go after a winger in free agency or give the spot to one of Knight/Spooner.
