Well - here it is the official truck day has arrived. Hey Cheri - watch out - it's on its' way to your neck of the woods next...
Posted Image

When I arrived, it appeared that most of the truck was completely packed. So, what were the reporters to do? Well, they sought out interesting interviewees...and who did they find? None other than our own sittingstill:
Posted Image

There was still a little bit of room left in the truck - they really manage to pack the stuff in there. Here the photogs get ready for the final loading:
Posted Image

Posted Image

Can't forget the bats...
Posted Image

Posted Image

I'm still working on them, so a few more yet to come...

Well, that appears to be all that they can fit in through the side door...time to close it up:
Posted Image

Check out the back - it's loaded too!
Posted Image

Posted Image

Oh no! They still have a few more bags!! And they're pretty important bags, when you notice that bat bag belonging to #34:
Posted Image

and this bag belonging to Francona certainly had to get on:
Posted Image

The only place left to fit those were in the sleeper:
Posted Image

Well, that was it - nothing left to do, but drive that thing on down to Florida:
Posted Image

Posted Image

Next stop - Ft. Myers.
Posted Image

I'm sure Kelly will have others to post as well. And now Cheri - we pass the torch to you...hope everyone enjoys them. Once again, there were more press than fans, and it actually seemed less of a show without Dr. Steinberg's touch. Still, it's a little bit of evidence that spring is on its way - I like Truck Day much better than Groundhog's day....

That is the best to happen around here in nearly a week. Given the events since last Sunday it is the most wonderful thing I've seen in what seems like a long time.

It just never gets old.

Spring is indeed on the way.

Thanks for sharing this w/pics. Now I know spring is on the way. Winter is on the downslide and soon we will all be enjoying baseball season once again. This year we start as the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox. Twice in a lifetime, my God what a great time to be alive!!

Ann-

Thanks for the photos. Seems strange to not have Cheri sending the truck off, but much better for her to be on the receiving end in the sunshine and away from this snow & ice. Not long now 'til we hear from Mike F. and the rest of the gang. We are waiting for the Spring Training thread and those photos. We are in need of some good news.

Thanks for the pics Anne, and I anxiously await Kelly's.

I proudly accept the torch that was passed to me. Rest assured Sox fans, I'll be at City of Palms Park to document the truck's arrival.

It's been a depressing week and we could all use a lift. The arrival of spring training is just what the doctor ordered. Mike F has his camera and notebook ready for action, and it all begins on 2/16. I can't wait.

A week from today marks the official beginning of the defense of another World Series title. One week!!!!!!! After last Sunday, it is some great solace to know that it is once again time for 7 months of pure bliss.

Personally, life has been hard lately and these pics just made me step back, smile and enjoy that my beloved Red Sox are defending Champs once again. Spring Training is a favorite time of the year.

Thanks very much for taking the time to share the pics with all of us across Red Sox nation!

Anne does this much better than I do! I'm generally looking for the silly side of it. The loading of the most critical equipment...
Posted Image

... trying to get my photo mascot in the shot...
Posted Image

... getting across the imbalance between media and fans present...
Posted Image

... and the general disbelief of the guys just trying to pack equipment on a truck.
Posted Image

Got the locking up of the back...
Posted Image

... and the disappearance of the truck into the distance.
Posted Image

Not to mention Anne, who looks like she has warm Florida sun and baseball on her mind!

The last time we all tracked something via GPS, that was pretty goddamn hilariously ridiculous.

Others have expressed their appreciation for the pictures (and the thread itself) far more eloquently than I am able.

My thought is about how totally cool it would be to encounter the truck(s) on I-95 sometime during course of one's life. Cut me off Big Rig and I don't care!

Honk if you're a Sox fan!

I like the way Red refers to defense of the title. We've had the wonderful experience of winning a couple of times lately. But it's been since 1916 since they went back to back. For me, that adds some excitement to the season. I never much thought '05 was going to happen, but this year I think a reasonable person could believe we have a good shot.

You're not alone with that thought. I'm in Jersey, and every year I point out to the family exactly when The Truck should be passing nearest our house: "C'mon, guys, whatta ya say we all pile into the Family Truckster and head out to the Turnpike and see if we can spot The Truck."

And did I miss it in the pictures, or is there no mention on The Truck who the reigning WS champs are? Coulda sworn that the '05 Truck made that point more than clear........

I think the current banners are being recycled year to year unless sponsorships change--I doubt they want to put much money into new ones since they take 'em off as soon as they get out of Boston. Al Hartz was laughing about it, saying that he does sleep in the truck to keep an eye on it, but he doesn't exactly want to advertise what's in it!

Yep! Glad I've got nothing to hide. Anne actually photographed the moment where I was surrounded. Every media outlet shows up... and there's really nothing to report. One person was actively lamenting "I have a minute and a half to fill!" I started to talk to NECN, I think, and the next thing I knew I had mics and cameras from every media person present just in case I said something interesting. WBZ and WCVB both used footage, though only 'BZ went so far as to identify me in voiceover as part of "the older, more informed set." (Ouch.)

I actually like that banner much better than the one they used in 2005. The light blue sky/big yellow sun/palm tree motif looks better than the usual blue/red Red Sox color scheme that we see everywhere else. A nice change of pace and good colors to welcome in the warm days of Spring.

We weren't supposed to be at the facility (shh.....) so I could only grab a quick photo. I apologize for the crummy cell phone photo but here's the first peek at our boys of summer. We recognized Lester, Dice-K and OK among the group.

Thanks, BSL. As I look at the picture of the vacuum cleaner and the bag of golf clubs, I wonder if the staff and players think we're really a bunch of nuts. The fourth picture in Post 12 from sittingstill sort of answers the question. Who are these people? is obviously the thought in that guy's mind.

So, thanks from the nuts.

I love this one - you really rock Cheri!! It's so much easier to get the shots at Fenway - truck's right out on the public street. But you - you risk life & limb for us. Well, done!!!

And the vacuum cleaner shots - brilliant!

Maybe it got squeezed out this year by the Pack 'n Play.

Thanks so much for the photos, BSL. I'll spend the rest of the day mulling over why a high-revenue team like the Sox uses the same crappy vacuum cleaners my dorm keeps in student storage that don't pick anything up and stink up the entire room. Maybe they need to jack up ticket prices some more?

Too bad their sign maker doesn't know the difference between an apostrophe (which is what's called for when abbreviating a year) and a single opening quotation mark (which is what was used here).

Oh, well . . .

Oh, well . . .

If they used a Microsoft product or something with similar smart quote "functionality", that may be to blame originally (not that the writer couldn't have fixed it manually).
