Another day another win. Big Lee is alive and well, back in touch with us basement dwellers and bringing more I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery than a casefull of Ali Landry pictures. Arroyo was awesome last night, the bats did their job, and Big Papi is still Big Papi. Now, a rejuvenated Clement takes the mound against a little byrd named Paul. In the never-ending struggle of bats vs. byrds, the bats always prevail. You see, they have sharp claws and teeth, and night-vision. Byrds just have pretty feathers. This night will see another big win for the champs, it is certain.

Continued thoughts with the Gulf Coasters. Donate blood, water, supplies, or money wherever you can. Reports of lives re-starting in hurricane-ravaged areas of Louisiana and Alabama have been heartening to read these last 24 hours. A McDonald's in Alabama re-opened to hundreds of people waiting for a Big Mac and fries. Small steps people.

Win.

A tip for NESN:
Being a SoCal guy I get to watch the local Halos' broadcasts. They suck, especially Hudler. But still, they rarely ever talk about the guy they ran into in the elevator with an enlarged prostate. Just a friendly hint on broadcast content...

Matty on the hill - check.
The best offense in Baseball - check.

11 of the last 12 from the Halo's at Fenway... the Sox are in their heads.

Good to hear BLS is safe and back on board and ReggieC. are thoughts are with you. Thankful for the distraction/addiction that is the Red Sox in times when reality is hard to deal wtih.

So bring on the brooms.

Amen. To those reading last night, my deepest apologies if the post I put up about BLS's safety around the same time RC was delivering bad news was construed as anything more than a response to the person who asked.

Reggie, I concur with our thoughts being with you.

BLS, Glad you're safe and sound.

Best of luck to both of you with what you still have to go through and, as Clemente says, thank goodness for the Sox.

(Win.)

9/8/05 -- Jose Struggles, Sox Do Not

It’s time for Jose Melendez’s KEYS TO THE GAME.

1. Today’s sonnet game summary:

Ode to the game on September 7, 2005

Two outs, none on and Balki gives up runs,
In innings number one and number two,
You’d think the Boston Red Sox would be done,
But then again, upon further review,

If ER hits a pop up that sneaks in,
As three defenders try to run it down,
And Papi checks his swing, flashes a grin,
Potentially it turns the game around.

If Balki sees his cutter’s got no cut,
And throws instead a sneaky, subtle change,
Jose begins to feel it in his gut,
And more so when Gabe Kapler shows his range.

Tonight the Red Sox shall complete the sweep,
Then to New York to take the Yankees deep.

2. According to the Boston Globe, Tampa Bay bench coach John McLaren was fined and suspended for three games by Major League Baseball for an incident in the ninth inning of the August 30 Rays--Red Sox game at Fenway Park. McLaren was ejected by home plate umpire Ed Montague after “getting personal.” What did McLaren say to prompt the ejection? According to sources, McLaren went after Montague’s family, mocking him for the suicide of his cousin Romeo.

Despite the fact that the incident took place hundreds of years ago in Italy and was not, technically speaking, real, Montague was infuriated by the comments and was heard to say “You’re outta here you G*d d*mn Capulet.”

3. Mariners rookie Michael Morse yesterday became the ninth player to fail a steroid test under the league’s substance abuse policy. Morse, who had been suspended for using steroids as a minor leaguer in May 2004, claimed that the positive test had only detected steroids remaining and his body from the 2004 incident, and thus he was being punished twice for the same infraction.

Upon hearing of this explanation, disgraced Orioles slugger Rafael Palmiero issued the following statement.

“Much like Michael Morse, I am being punished for a mistake that I made a long time ago. As I have stated previously, I have never used steroids this year. I used them only from 1991-2002 and again in 2004. The only explanation I can conceive of is that the steroids from the previous dates are still in my system. Does any one have any questions? As I am wearing earplugs, I cannot hear you. Good day.”

I’m Jose Melendez, and those are my KEYS TO THE GAME.

Clement looking good so far. Mixing his pitches and not falling too far behind in the count most of the time.

The Angels have an annoying lineup, but only the 2-5 guys really scare me.

It's probably a ghost town here because of the Patriots home opener. I know we're already having a family feud over who watches what.
