You guys are really getting heated over the red seat thing? Do you really think there is a chance that it won't be there by opening day? It can't take more than 1 hour to put back in. Why would the Sox not do it? There are better things to waste you ire on, like why Jason Varitek sucks so much.

Nobody's getting heated, Temple. We're simply commenting on how the media and fan base will react if something like "no red seat" were to come to pass. And we're 100% correct in our assessments.

If you want to whine about Tek, there's a separate thread for that so have at it.

FWIW, I took a tour this morning and someone asked about the red seat. The tour guide assured us that its absence was due to the renovations and that it would be back by opening day.

Different view of the brick...

IMO, you have to go with all brick, or all green...

I said the same thing when I looked at the initial pictures. Natural brick is great, but when 95% of the park is green, the brick is going to look odd.

Is it possible they removed the paint to re-point the brick, and afterward will repaint it green?

Some answers to the questions - (1) the brick is being painted:

(2) the red seat is in:

and, though not asked about, the 2007 World Series is recognized:

Great shots Ann. Flip through those photos and tell me if the new Left Field Pavilion seats have cupholders - inquiring new 20 game plan owners need to know

And any shots of the first row of bleachers and the railing/screen in front of the bullpens?

Tuesday, Opening Day is Tuesday. Long weekend ahead for the construction crew.

First, I wanted to chime in to say I love this thread and the pics of the works-in-progress at the park. Terrific stuff.

A good little summary piece in the Globe today. The ending lines raised an eyebrow for me though, and I wanted to know what you guys thought this was in reference to:

Even with all the changes over the past seven years, Smith said, the organization has a laundry list of renovations to complete. Up for next year: renovation of the right field upper deck and replacement of the center field scoreboard.

What area would this be exactly? The Bud Roof deck area is only a couple seasons old, and I had been under the impression that the revamping down the right field line this offseason reached all the way down to that area.

But you all probably know much better than I do.

That probably means the aluminum bleachers that make up Conig's Corner will be removed and be replaced by permanent seating. The bleachers are next to the RF Bud seats and behind the RF roof seats.

I imagine this is referring to a more permanent solution to Conig's Corner.

This is probably referring to the single-deck area of older seats that extends from the end of the new pavilion construction down to the beginning of the Bud corner. The rest of Fenway's roof has been touched in one way or another by the construction of the past few seasons, and I always thought that RF roof area wasn't really originally meant to be walked on. All the newer sections (Bud section, pavilions) seems much more like an integrated part of the ballpark. Also, they've stated that this is the last year for the temporary Conig's Corner so a more permanent solution for that is likely going to be wrapped up in this.

I'd go a step further and say I wouldn't be surprised if they get rid of the RF Roof box and continue the the Pavilion Boxes (much like the LF line) all the way down to the Bud Roof area.

Ah, This makes sense. This would probably add another 75 seats or more, right?

Amazing to think that they have found room for 3500 seats in the last few years.

Not only that, but they could jack the seats up another 50% from $50 to $75 to match the prices in left field.

Update on the new LCD panels. For simplification I will call them 1 (first base outfield), 2 (first base infield), 3 (third base infield), and 4 (third base outfield / under the Coca-Cola sign).

Posted Image
Before the game, they show the Sox starter's stats on #2 and the away starter's stats on #3.

Posted Image
Posted Image
During an inning, #2 and #3 show R/H/E, inning, B-S-O, player #, AVG, HR, and RBI. Pitch/strike counts are updated on the left side of #1 and right side of #4. The pitch speed and type of pitch are shown on the other side of these panels immediately following a pitch; the rest of the time there is an advertisement there.

Between innings, #2 and #3 show R/H/E, inning, and who is due up next in the lineup + batting averages. #1 and #4 show animated, full-color advertisements. These LCD panels are certainly capable but they do scale it down a lot.
"What goes on here is fairly amazing. Ancient Greek thought developed the concept of paideia which spoke to how people are developed within their social setting. The normative gradient in SoSH that sports fans ought to be able to express themselves properly in terms of rigorous analysis, well expressed writing, and a respect for at least some baseline of human dignity is just a stunning cultural achievement that most people I know wouldn’t believe possible in given so many of the problematic facets of sports fan culture. SoSH is a special place."

Some pictures from this morning...

Accesable seating in the front row of the bleachers. Those will be worth standing in line for on day-of-game...
Posted Image

They did such a great job refurbishing the bleachers...the step down between the bullpens is gone. Just a fantastic job...
Posted Image

Mrs. Quinn's seat...(moved about a foot back...)
Posted Image

Squeaky clean...before the vomit and mustard...
Posted Image

"I wonder who got the Red Seat, and how much it went for?" Nobody, and nothing.
Posted Image

Another look at the front row bleachers...
Posted Image

The new Coke seats...
Posted Image

The view from the new Coke seats...I have to say that as I was walking down the steps, I got some serious vertigo and felt like I was going to fall over. There is not much of a barrier to prevent people from falling. It would be difficult to fall off the Monster. It would be EASY to fall off these new Coke seats, IMO.
edit: I also meant to say that these seats might be the best seats in the house. Dangerous, but worth it.

Posted Image

The painted brick...doesnt match. It's a bit lighter than the rest of the green. Nitpicking, I know.

I've never seen so many people jammed into that place! Wait until the stories start to surface about the log-jam of humanity that formed under the grandstand going from home to right field about an hour and a half before game-time. It took 20 minutes to walk 10 feet! I've been there six years and never saw anything like that...

they also squeezed another sign on the monster (the AAA sign) between the former home of the Coke bottles and the Fisk pole.
