A new version of the National Anthem! That is boldness incarnate.

Top that, Colorado.

That really was pretty cool. It's a tough task to come up with an original arrangement of the SSB without making it incomprehensible. I appreciated that effort by Williams.

John Williams...pulling out the big guns, I like it.

John Williams has just revealed the greatest composition of our national anthem.

Interesting that the Rockies are batting Ryan Spilborghs 9th in the lineup, as he probably the 5th best hitter in the lineup.

I wonder if Clint Hurdle knows he can bat his DH anywhere he wants in the lineup, and not just the 9-hole.

Actually, the Rockies have a very good team. You underestimate them at your peril. Don't forget the 2003 Marlins and the 2006 Cardinals.

This is what I said earlier. I think its quite possible that both fans and players think they've already won the WS. Its important to come out HARD because Colorado has been on fire recently.

Rearranging the Anthem...not your best idea, John.

I don't know. That brass run during the last 12 or so bars was pretty sick.

Honestly, Byrnes is about right. Our major advantage is in pitching, and even there it's not huge. Colorado's lineup is just as strong as ours, both on offense and defense.

But that doesn't mean we aren't going to WIN!

Our bullpen is better, we have more big-game experience and we have Beckett. But besides that I'd say we're pretty even, apart from the difference in leagues which is hard to quantify.

Well, that's more a case of underestimating how high the variance of results in a 7-game series is. I certainly agree that the Rockies are good, but I also think that the difference between the teams is bigger than Josh Beckett.

Kinda bitter, IMHO, compared to their seasonal brews. The winter brew is out now, but that's more of a holiday beer for me.

I'm not denying the Rocks have a good team, but Byrnes is on crack if he thinks Colorado's SP's are on the level of ours.

Absolutely. For most of the people who caterwaul the Anthem, it's all about them rather than about the meaning behind the song. And, frankly, since I've never heard of most of 'them,' I'd rather hear the song sung properly.

And you don't win 21 of 22 without a TON of luck.

They're good, but they're a good team in the NL. The AL is the real big leagues.

But like the Cards proved, anything can happen in a 7 game series.

Everyone's talking about the Rockies defense, but when it comes down to it, the Sox gave up 657 runs during the season, and the Rockies gave up 758 (plus, we outscored them by 7; not a lot, but they got an extra game). I like our chances a lot in this series.

Also, Clint Hurdle is an awful manager. I look for him to make at least one boneheaded decision during the series that hurts them.

I don't mean to keep being argumentative with you, but why is the 21 of 22 that much more relevant than the fact that they were 76-72 over the first 90% of the season? I can understand giving some degree of increased weight to recent results, but barring some wholesale personnel changes, it seems better to evalute the team over their entire season performance.

The reason I'm not scared is because Colorado isn't really playoff-tested the way the Sox are playoff tested. They played the Cubs and D'backs. Not exactly the gauntlet the Sox have had to go through. They've also faced zero adversity in the post-season, and at the very least they will face some adversity in this series. Let's see how they play under pressure in the 7th inning on at Fenway.
