That killer cupcake in a city picture above took me right back to my childhood memories of playing a different game, which I feel like applies to this situation. He's hoping Josh Beckett, after tossing a 9-inning 1-hitter tonight goes wild and starts chewing on buildings in downtown Cleveland.

Where's his partner in cupcake ass-kicking dispensing

Sorry, can't take credit. It's all cut and paste. The song lyrics, however, are mine!

EDIT: That was meant as a reply to ypioca. Yikes.

Great stuff from the game thread in the Red Sox Forum.

From Jose Melendez's - Keys to the game:

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Thank God we’re not starting D. Jonathan Dru.

Roses are red, dead ones are black,
Where is Millar? Let’s break out the Jack.

Marigold’s orange, lilies are white,
Why isn’t Ellsbury, playing in right?

Begonias are red, or their white or pink,
Seriously guys, you should start with a drink.

Grass it is green, bark it is brown,
You will come back, from three to one down.

Outfield is green, in, a burnt umber,
The bats will arise from their postseason slumber.

Poppies are red, they’re used to make smack,
It’s time for Pedroia to show us some sack.

Maples have leaves, in winter they’re bare,
Do you really think Manny just doesn’t care?

Pine trees have needles, oak trees have leaves
We need for our shortstop to pull up his sleeves.

Daises are red, when slathered in paint
Tonight young Josh Beckett will prove he’s a saint.

Hyacinth’s blue, except when it’s not,
Like back in ’04, let’s go drink a shot.

I'm off to sleep... will wake up in complete "fuck-the-indians" mode. Nothing else will be important. Eating - meaningless. Talking to friends - fuck'em, they don't know what's going on.

Just stay pumped. I'll be back, fully loaded.

Fucking daylight savings. 10PM starting time.

Not much to say really. What will happen tonight is unknown but there are no words that I can write to shape what is to come to my advantage. I will say a prayer but I'm sure God has other more important prayers that trump mine. I'm going to self indulge here a bit. If you don't want to read it just skip this post. Thank you for your time. It's no big deal. I could lie and turn it into a big deal but I'm not built like that.

Mr. Negative's Brush With Fame (Part 1):

Day 1:

I think it was in October or November of 97' or 98'. We went to Disneyland in Anaheim as we often do. On our first day it was raining and the park was not very crowded which was great since we could get on our favorite rides over and over again. At about noon we decide to eat lunch at the park. It didn't matter too much where so we stopped in at this one place by the Dumbo ride, I forget exactly what it's called but part of the name (or all of it) is Hofbrau I believe.

We walk in and quickly look around and see a sparse crowd. I then focus straight ahead of me to find the menu board and my eyes catch this guy that looks just like Matt Williams. After a few disbelieving seconds I know for sure it is him. I whisper to my wife and son. She knows because the Giants have always been her second favorite team. At this point he was no longer a Giants player. I am a shy person and I debated for 30 seconds should I say hello. There was no way I was going to ask for his autograph. That's just me. I decide to go for it.

"You're Matt Williams? Aren't you?" I asked.
He was wearing a rain gear type of outfit with matching pants and jacket. He was leaning against a wooden pillar or pole.
"Yes, I am." He replied making very quick eye contact and then looking down again.
"I just want to say Mr. Williams that we loved watching you with the Giants all those years and we still enjoy watching you play." I don't remember my exact words but it was pretty much this sentiment. While I said this he remained leaning and looking down. As I finished, he raised his head and made quick eye contact again.
"Thank you....thank you", was his reply, softly spoken. He then looked downward again.
We walked away to get in line to order and I recall telling my wife how badly I felt for seeming to have invaded his privacy somehow. He was shy but nice, cordial. I just got the distinct feeling that he had wished I never noticed him.

No later than we're away from him in line for 10 seconds, behind me I hear someone say, "I thought you were Matt Williams". I then hear a lady, "It's Matt Williams, look". I look back and there is about 3 people right there with him talking. I felt bad, like I blew his cover. We ate and left.

Day 2:

Early morning on the seond day of our vacation we head out to the park from where we were staying which was the Howard Johnson Hotel. We were going to walk to the park as we usually do. Normally we stop by our car in the parking lot to put on or take off a jacket or get some water bottles, stuff like that. This day was no different.

So we turn the corner and head for our car and we see Matt Williams and a lady (his wife I guess) and a couple of kids standing there parked about 5 cars before ours. He is taking stuff out of or putting stuff into the back of an SUV. We're whispering how odd this coincedence is as we pass by them. His kids are making noise and he's talking to them as he stands up after moving a bag. He sees us only briefly and makes no acknowledgement. We go to our car, get our stuff and go to the park.

Day 3:

We're going to start off our final vacation day with an early breakfast at Howard Johnsons. Back then I believe there was a HoJo restaurant as well as a Hotel. Now, the restaurant is not there anymore. We tell the waitress, "party of 3 please" and we follow her to our table.

I don't believe it! The waitress takes us to a table that is right next to a large booth table and there is Matt Williams with his wife (I guess), a couple of kids, and another couple that could have been a sister or a brother or relative of some kind. We were laughing inside. What are the odds, 3 days in a row. At some point he saw us but made no facial expression or anything but he had to be wondering if we were stalking him or something. I spent the rest of the breakfast trying not to look over at them. We could hear them all talking since we were so close. It wasn't our business but you couldn't help but hear them. Although, nothing major was said, just family and Disneyland stuff.

So there it is. See I told you, no big deal. I should have made it more fun and made up stuff.

Well, I've stayed silent too long. I have been a lurker here for four years, and have been lurking in the lurker's forums too, but I cannot stay silent any longer.

I've bled too much with the 2007 Red Sox to see it end here.

Literally. I had a nightmare before game 3 Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis and I were being chased by a giant monster golem-like thing and guys with machine guns. I watched Dustin get machine-gunned to death.

Tonight I want to have a dream he's all bandaged up and we're playing catch or something in a meadow. You know -- birds twittering, flowers, high grass waving in the wind -- something happy.

This team has holes but is too good to lose 4 in a row. We have Beckett on the mound. The bats will come alive.

I fully expect to be watching some baseball this weekend. At Fenway.

WIN, violently.

I would've believed a nightmare where Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis were chasing *you*. They look like they're about to explode with frustration..let's hope it happens with their bats!

From ESPN.com...

Teams have been known to go to extraordinary lengths to get an edge. But the Cleveland Indians swear Thursday night's choice of pre-game singer is not a piece of gamesmanship.

Danielle Peck, a country music singer who also happened to date Red Sox ace pitcher Josh Beckett, will sing the national anthem and "God Bless America" at tonight's Game 5 in Cleveland. Beckett is scheduled to start the game for Boston.

I don't know if they're trying to mind fuck Beckett, but if they are, it's not going to work. The only reason he'd care about an ex-girlfriend being there is if she'd be willing to join him for a post-game celebration.

Yeah, what is it with those towels. Isn't that a Steelers idea? Can't Cleveland come up with their own stupid rally thingie?

When we get back to Boston, I think we should wave lobsters...well, maybe not.

Just get us back to Boston Beckett. We don't need no stinking rally thingie.

The furthest back I remember fans en masse waving something was Phoenix Suns fans waving white hankies in the 1976 finals. Called 'em a bunch of pussies back then. We all know how that ended. Well, for the young or not Celtics basketball fans, Celtics in six led by Captain John Havlicek, Dave Cowens, Charlie Scott et al. Sox'll have to do it in 7.

I love the Red Sox.

Nice, anakin. That's from 2004 ALCS Game 4 GT. It came with the tagline "What the hell..it worked yesterday.." for subsequent games. Forget which member posted it. The graphic's great. And makes this game Locked On!

With our backs up against the wall, it's time for Beckett's Last Stand

absolutely unbelievable.

one of my best friends growing up (who now lives about 500 miles away) and i exalted and then consoled each other during the '86 alcs/WS, and at the time, as a junior in high school, led zep was IT. at that time, 'achilles last stand' was the song we ended up associating with that entire october run. fast forward to '04: right before game 7 (yanks), i called him long distance from the car and when he picked up all he could hear was 'achilles last stand'. likewise before game 4 (cards).

i just left him a VM while i was out at lunch (yeah, like i don't have the zep in my car and haven't been listening to ALS constantly the past week--old school I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery).

so to come back and see THIS? needless to say it resonates with me on deep personal levels, but also shows that SOS waters run deep. all of which is to say forces larger than us are at work here. 100% chance the sox win tonite.

with the inviolable assistance of Page/Plant/Jones/Bonham I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery and all the sons of master horn, WIN IT!

It was an April morning when they told us we should go
And as I turned to you, you smiled at me, how could we say no?

With all the fun to have, to live the dreams we always had
Oh, the songs to sing, when we at last return again

Sending off a glancing kiss, to those who claim they know
Below the streets that steam and hiss,
The devil's in his hole

Oh to sail away, To sandy lands and other days
Oh to touch the dream, Hides inside and never seen.

Into the sun the south the north, at last the birds have flown
The shackles of commitment fell, In pieces on the ground

Oh to ride the wind, To tread the air above the din
Oh to laugh aloud, Dancing as we fought the crowd

To seek the man whose pointing hand, The giant step unfolds
To guide us from the curving path, That churns up into stone

If one bell should ring, in celebration for a king
So fast the heart should beat, As proud the head with heavy feet.

Days went by when you and I, bathed in eternal summers glow
As far away and distant, Our mutual child did grow

Oh the sweet refrain, Soothes the soul and calms the pain
Oh Albion remains, sleeping now to rise again

Wandering and wondering, What place to rest the search
The mighty arms of Atlas, Hold the heavens upon the earth

The mighty arms of Atlas, Hold the heavens from the earth
From the earth...

I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way (X2)

Oh the mighty arms of Atlas, Hold the heavens from the earth.

Major goosebumps watching those zeppelin clips.

The only I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery parallel that I'd like to point out: IIRC, those were from Knebworth '79 - the last time Page/Plant/Jones/Bonham played together live. As I've repeated ad nauseum in other threads, I don't want to watch my last game tonight. Fvck it. Adding to Zeppelin I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery:

Just so I can say I said so....

Tonight is no time for radical lineup changes and Jacoby should no tbe getting his first PS start against a lefty. This lineup won in game one. Terry has done a great job in the postseason: the best we have ever seen from him. If Petey could stop talking, come down and hit: that would help. If one the three guys at the end of the lineup could contribute that would be even better.

On the main board 5belongstoGeorge asks who on earth you would pick to pitch "if your baseball team was in an elimination game." He picks Beckett, I pick Luis Tiant, but given Luis' age now (always a question, but certainly well over 60), Beckett will do just fine, thank you.
