Mark my words: Doug Davis will get lit up like a bonfire tomorrow night. And that makes tonight's game pretty much a must-win for Arizona.
Doug Davis. Is there a trashier #2 starter on a playoff caliber team in baseball?

Arizona does not appear to have enough of an offense to overcome any bigger deficit. Webb will need to hold things at 4-1
Sorry, I feel like an idiot, but is the score really 4-1 Rockies? I cannot get TBS and have searched 15 minutes for a live radio feed online of the game
Edit: fuckin finally found a vegas fox sports radio feed and just described how it got to 4

But I've sort of cheerily tuned in to this game. Weird.

I don't think I watched a single second of the Cardinals playing the Astros in 2004, just what they showed in updates between innings. The Sox going against the mfy's was so consuming.
All I remember is the in-game update of Edmunds going yard for a walkoff win in game 6. Thats it

they would lose to either A.L. team in five games or less.

As a whole, the entire National League pitching in the playoffs has been unimpressive. Cole Hamels, Carlos Zambrano and Brandon Webb... that's about it. Compare it to 2003 when Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Josh Beckett, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz and Jason Schmidt were all in the playoffs.

Tickets were going for $3 (that's three US dollars...) on Stub Hub just a couple hours before game time.I still cannot believe the Diamondbacks did not sell out game one. Kind of an embarassment for AZ
Yeah, but here's the thing about Hernandez: The current Rockies' roster has a lifetime line against him of .322/.392/.478/.870 in 294 PA. They've killed him, right? How bout #3 Livan Hernandez..... 160 whip, 1.5 HR/9 ,1.14k/bb, 3.9k/9, 863ops
Yet more than a quarter of those PAs (77) are Helton's, with a line of .485/.557/.758/1.315
The rest of their active roster vs Livan: .265/.328/.381/.709
Franky, he's their ace in the hole in Game 3, especially if the Rockies start Morales.

man, even the "everybody clap you hands!" song didn't get anyone going. That always works with fair-weather fans. Place is dead.
Arizona is a Phoenix Suns town. They've have a consecutive sellout streak that has spanned a few seasons now.

If the Sox are in the WS against AZ, get ready to order via Stub Hub.Empty seats at the Bob... Phoenix is an easy flight from San Diego... if the Red Sox were to play the D-Backs... I could probably talk the wife into attending a WS game!
For the record:
T. Gwynn could probably still hit his weight if there was a designated runner.
The regular season Red Sox games were Fenway West, with the Saturday game being the largest crowd in their franchise history.
( Including the 2001 WS)
It was wild and fun, and I would expect all of the SO Ca and West Coast RSN to be there for the series.
I'm sure the AZ FO and the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce would root for the Sox over Cleveland in the ALCS.
Not sure how well "Indians nation" travels.
As of Wed, there were 8000 unsold seats at Chase for this game. Looks like a substantial amount of those did not sell.

I think MLB should apply the NFL blackout rule to postseason games: you don't sell out your stadium, you don't get to watch them in the home market. This is the LCS! There is ZERO excuse for this bullshit.

Exactly. And it's not like there are huge numbers of other sporting events around to draw people.

Solution: replace Diamondbacks ownership with Orioles ownership. Those (good) fans in Baltimore have been raked over the coals by Angels for years. They deserve better.

Hawpe was an 11th rounder
Holliday was a 7th rounder
Atkins was a 5th rounder
I'm not sure if that is just getting lucky, but that is solid drafting.

I don't think the Rockies are ever going to lose again.
That's what I'm starting to get worried about. The whole run has a 2003 Marlins vibe to it.

Are the Rockies the only team in the NL that has both an offense and a pitching staff?

Holliday dropped because of signability. He was very highly thought of prior to the draft. On the radio they were talking about the Rockies player development:
Hawpe was an 11th rounder
Holliday was a 7th rounder
Atkins was a 5th rounder
I'm not sure if that is just getting lucky, but that is solid drafting.
