Manny hit that ball so hard it knocked the SoSH server down for an hour.

Putting Papelbon in was absolutely the correct move. I said it during the season and I'll say it again: Francona knows what to do in the post-season. Every game is a must win. Manage aggressively. Drive the nail in the coffin. Terry Francona is a fantastic post-season manager.

Anaheim can't be a happy team. between Vlad getting hit, Manny and Paps celebrating, plus their general injury situation, someone is bound to bitch on their end.

Very good. The Wave.

Well that was one of the top 10 jump out of my seat moments.

Holy shit, what a bomb.

I feel so good for Manny, finally doing the Papi style walkoff dance.

Hey K-ROD...fuck you and your fist pump.

Let's wrap this up with the great one on the mound Sunday, with any luck, I will be there.

SUCH DIRTY fucking water it's amazing!

What a game! Manny becomes 2nd on the list of all-time post-season HR's. Unbelievable! These are our baseball times, folks. I'm enjoying the hell out of this whole ride.

What a day with the spanks going down pretty damned hard. Midges, what next!?

That HR was a thing of absolute beauty. I loved Manny's standing there for what seemed a VERY long time. It was great!

Here, here, Terry for president! K-Rod put everything he had into that fastball, practically fell over, jerked his neck so he could watch it head toward the Mass Pike. He looked like he watched it until it completely disappeared into the night. Usually, a pitcher that gives up a walkoff hardly looks at it at all. Then, he looked at his catcher as if to say 'why did we throw that pitch'. I enjoyed all of that. Manny? What a stud.

I was thinking more along the lines of media types or dumb yankee fans that whine about "playing the game right". I recall there was a Fox broadcast team that went way over the top about a Manny HR trot a while back . . . Steve Lyons may have been involved.

I hope Schill can close this thing out.

When you hit your 21st career post-season home run as a walk-off deep out onto the Mass Pike you're allowed to gloat. If anyone complains about that they should be slapped.

As soon as the inning started I knew that it was a ballgame for the Sox. Did you see TBS's advertisement behind the batters box? The Office I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery, baby!

exactly, I'm tired of everyone telling players to stop celebrating on the field. A little emotion in the playoffs is a good thing.

My favorite part (other than, you know, winning the game) was Napoli's reaction at catcher. He just headed right towards the dugout. That's a homerun that deserves preening at homeplate if there ever was one.

Best part of that was the look on Manny's face after he hit it. Honestly, he seemed pretty ho-hum about it.

1)Got it. Wow, he the threw exactly what I thought he would. I was expecting that to be more difficult.

2)I suppose I better watch the ball, just in case it hits a stupid bird or something. I'd feel a little bad for the bird.

3)Don't forget to point.

4)Ok, run around the bases now.

5)GROUP HUG!!!!

You could tell Manny knew that pitch was coming.

I don't see how you can complain about Manny show boating. I mean, hitting a HR in the post-season in the bottom of the ninth in a tie game after they just walked your best hitter is pretty dramatic and a certain amount of showmanship is called for. It just gets tacky when you take a curtain call for the 4 HR of night when your team is up by 10 pummeling the dregs of the Orioles bullpen.

From the aforementioned LA Times article, in which Paps refers to his upcoming mid-flight poker game:

"Well, hopefully I'll take all of David Ortiz's money, and if Manny wants to jump in, I'll take his paycheck, too."

I heard that quote live and I nearly died. He needs a reality show.

This awful offense is about to lose this game.

Phil Nevin...not exactly Kreskin...not exactly an optimist...not quite a full member.

It's 4:45a.m. and I still can't sleep. I just keep watching that shot over and over and over. We are truly watching one of the greatest pure hitters in the game of baseball...and its alot of fun. Almost as much fun? Watching A-Rod go 0-4 with 3k's. Oh, and on a side note...lost in all the shuffle is J.D. Drew and a bigtime hit. Lets keep it rolling!!!

...so I fell asleep somtime in the 8th, (7 hours of baseball & game-threading), but of course the radio was still on.
I heard them walk Papi, and then Manny's bomb.

It was like an alternate state--all delerious and dreamy...

Yankees lose, Sox win - what a night!

P.S. Please ignore PN23...Don't quote him. His trolling posts are destestable. We knew this would happen when he was banned from the Mainboard and came over here.

I have now seen the replay of the HR many many times. Just once I would like to see someone grab Dennis Drinkwater by the back of his neck, press his face against the screen and scream "you own the 4 most coveted seats in Boston sports, stop being such a douche and enjoy them a bit!!" Seriously, this guy has reached a new level of creepy. Every walkoff win he bowls someone over to run up the aisle and beat the crowd.

He owns Giant Glass. He is the light haired guy that sits behind home EVERY game. By every account he is a great guy and he has developed an uncanny ability to know when a ball is a HR. Seriously, if the ball is 1 foot foul or hits 3 inches below the HR line he doesn't twitch, but if it is a HR he throws his arms in the air...unless it is a walkoff. Watch the end of CB's no-hitter, he jumps over 2 seats to get to the aisle as soon as Joe West calls the final strike. It is every time. Any one of us would be climbing the screen with our shirts tied around our heads if we saw some of this stuff from those seats. Pretty trivial gripe by me, actually just an observation of something I think is less than normal.

The importance of Sunday's game should not go underestimated...need to avoid "wasting" a Beckett start and need to make sure that he's set up to pitch 3 times (if necessary) against CLE or ny

I feel the same way, its just annoying to watch him plow threw people. It reminds me of LB fighting his way to the locker room after the C's won the title :rolling:

I did a little googling to see if I could find any info about this and the Globe had an article in 2005:

1 800 54 Giant

Exit strategy: The regulars who sit around him call him ''eight and two-thirds" for his habit of leaving his seat with one out remaining in the bottom of the ninth and making a bee-line for the ramp near the right-field concourse to watch the last out. Then he ducks to his car. ''I'm on 93 before most people have left the park."

Disaster plan: ''If something drastic happens one way or the other when there's only one out left, I go back to my seat until the game is over."

Really, it's like the look on Beckett's face the other night. Calm, cool and confident. We're finding out right now that this is a very confident team when it comes to the post-season. It's quite tremendous.

30 seconds before Manny won it my buddy from North Dakota called:

Buddy: Hey Ding what's up?

Me: Not much man.

Buddy: You watching the game?

Me: Heck yes I am.

Buddy: Manny's gonna win it here. (this was like 10 seconds before)

Me: No Doubt.

Manny: BOOM! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

good times! One of these days I'm half expecting Manny to forget which way he is suppose to run around the bases, and start making his way towards 3B.

I haven't posted much, though I've been lurking for a few years. But that ending was so amazing (not only from a baseball standpoint but for me from a personal one as well) that I just had to write. I woke up at 2:30 in the morning to watch the game with a killer hangover from getting drunk just four hours before. I managed to stay awake and alert till the end. At around 6:30 am my 4-year-old son Sam woke up and came downstairs to find me glued to the computer screen (MLB.TV is a godsend overseas). We've never had a chance to watch baseball together because games always start after his bedtime, so this was the first time he'd ever watched the Red Sox live. What an initiation! He made it just in time for Lugo's single and followed each pitch with anticipation. After Manny's bomb we were high-fiving each other and cheering so loud that we almost woke up my wife and daughter, never mind the rest of the neighborhood. So the Prague chapter of Red Sox Nation has a new member as of this morning. Thank you Manny!

What a fantastic game! I couldn't think of another Manny walk-off moment in all this time here, and sure enough, this was the first one! I wonder who would have pitched the 10th - I'm glad we'll never find out.

Hopefully we can close out the Angels in Anaheim! And also hopefully Cleveland and the midges can snuff out NY. I'd love to see a Sox-Cleveland ALCS!

One other note - fantastic job of managing by Tito. You can always argue moves he makes, but he's a pretty damn good manager - John McNamara he is not.
