The Red Sox have come up big against the Angels in the playoffs in the past, and they will do so again.

I am expecting some great things from Jacoby Ellsbury this series because of Dave Henderson I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery.

Henderson's stats in the ALCS against the Angels - 1 for 9. But that one hit...


Hendu had the Ellsbury role on the '86 Sox at the start of the ALCS against the Angels - the fourth outfielder (defensive replacement for Tony Armas, the starting CF).

n Game 2, Hendu came on in the 8th as a defensive replacement (a 9-2 win to tie the series up at 1-1) and didn't bat. In Game 4, he came on in the 7th and flied out, and never came up again in the heartbreaking 4-3 loss which resulted in the Sox trailing 3 games to 1 in the series. Nothing special...yet.

In Game 5, Hendu was inserted in the 5th inning (Armas got injured) and, in the 6th inning, misplayed a Bobby Grich fly ball, which popped out of glove when he crashed into the wall and over the fence to become a two run homer. To make things worse, he struck out against Mike Witt in the 7th. By the time he got his next at bat, the Sox were one out away from elimination and were down 5-4. The Sox were in the middle of a rally - they were down 5-2 before Don Baylor had homered earlier in the inning. I distinctly remember Hendu go down to strike 2 -- one strike away from elimination -- before slamming one of the greatest home runs in history - a two run homer off Donnie Moore (who was never the same again :) ) to give the Sox the lead.

OK, here's the 5-toe I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery that provided a 5 game winning streak earlier in the season and also gave Dice-K a very strong start against the Yankees recently. So here they are... ALEX CORA's 5 toe SOCKS.

Wait, what's going on with the main board game thread? Why can't we see it? Anyway, I have to DVR this game and watch it a little later, which is painful and difficult, and I have to go into media silence at game time, and I've sworn everyone I'm coming in contact with during that time to either a) stay away from the media as well or b) don't talk to me because even a little expression on their face can ruin it. I'm not sure I won't explode.

I have work staring me in the face and I can't concentrate. When I actually do manage to forget about tonight for a few minutes there is this sense of uneasiness and a nervous knot in my stomach, and then I remember we start down that path of agony and ecstasy all over again. There are times when I really wish I didn't care this much; that I could just be a casual fan like others that I know. I'm sure they are aware of the game tonight, but right now it isn't perfusing through their systems the way it does for me. But then I remember the pure unadulterated joy that came when Renteria hit that comebacker, and the fact that I had to wait until I saw replays to hear Joe Buck's call of the biggest out of my lifetime - I saw and heard nothing for a moment as I let go of a lifetime of frustration. And it's when those memories return that I realize I wouldn't trade my addiction to this franchise for anything.

I hope the Red Sox come to play tonight. They have to bring their A game to this one. I expect nothing less than 110% from these guys. The Sox need to just take it one game at time. Remember guys there is no I in Team. You should all just be happy that you're a part of this ballclub and that you want to help the team anyway that you can. We have to come out on top whether it's a good win or a bad win or an ugly win. This game will be won between the lines.

We need Josh Becket to pitch lights out, throw a gem. This guy has the heart of a champion. He must stay within himself and use good mechanics to throw some heat, take something off, and throw the big hook. If he does this well the batters will be eating out of his hand.

Whether it's insurance runs or manufactured runs, the offense must put some crooked numbers on the board. They don't have to swing for the fences or chase bad pitches just hit the ball right on the screws. We want to see balls tatooed.

The Angels have a monkey they need to get off their back against the Sox in the playoffs. We can not come out flat in this one. It comes down to who wants it more and we can not beat ourselves. Tonight is going to be a real pressure cooker. Both teams will be fighting tooth and nail. Any one play could change the complexion of the game. We need to scratch and claw and do all the little things to win. We will WIN! Stick a fork in 'em......they're done!
