Well gang, it has been a blast. This is the last game thread of the regular season for the Lurkers.

This game is....how can I say this...meaningless. We have gotten everything we asked for out of the regular season from the Red Sox. Best record, homefield throughout, AL victory in the All-Star game. On top of that everyone seems to be getting hot at the same time. Things look really good.

Not much to post about for this game, except maybe some of your favorite memories from the regular season.

I have enjoyed making my "Lord of the Red Sox" I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery posts, and I apologize to those with Dial-up. I agree with most of you that yesterdays was the best one, and impossible to beat. I wish we could continue through the playoffs...but it is what it is. So without further delay...

"The Lord of the Red Sox" I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery presents...

"A Red Sox Day!"

Don't be too shocked to see Papi, Manny and Youk all in it. It's gonna be a few days before they play again. Resting is one thing, rusting is another.

I hope you're right. I'd love to see

Pedroia
Youks
Ortiz
Manny
Lowell
Drew
Crisp
Tek
Lugo

in anticipation of the playoff lineup. (with the possible swaps of Papi/Manny and/or the swap of Youks/Crisp in the order)

I'd love to see that too. Especially since I am going to the game and fully expect to get a heavy dose of Clayton, Hinske, Cora, Moss, Kielty, and Cash.

I was thinking about this being a "truly meaningless game," but I realized that's impossible. I want them to go out with a WIN, and I want Cleveland to lose even though I think it's better for them to go into a cfy series on an upswing.

It would also be great to see Julian pitch a gem to end his season, which I think was pretty decent overall. He was a good contributor and was also good for a few laughs along the way.

WIN THIS GAME!!!

What the heck, might as well win today, too. End the regular season with a 'W', then get rested and ready to kick ass in the playoffs.

Objectively, I don't really care if the Red Sox win this game, because it means virtually nothing.

But I hope they win for the little kids at the ballpark that get to go see the Red Sox, and I hope they win for me, so that I can keep reading awesome LoTR montages into Game 1 of the Playoffs.

Lineup looks like it's built for curtain calls:
1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
2. Manny Ramirez, LF
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Mike Lowell, 3B
5. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
6. Jason Varitek, C
7. Coco Crisp, CF
8. Jacoby Ellsbury, RF
9. Julio Lugo, SS

SP - Julian Tavarez

Fukken WIN DAMMIT

Yes, WIN!

I'm headstrong by nature, so I went ahead and PM'd a Dope yesterday to ask about the likelihood of a sandbox closure during the playoff games. I haven't gotten an answer, and I think that means that they just don't know for sure how bad it's going to get, and whether they'll cut us off or not. And that means it's possible.

Lurkers don't get frustrated, we get organized. Orlando has constructed a beautiful full-featured bulletin board, and it's all ours. If we're kicked out, Orlando's Domain is where we go.

You have to get registered ahead of time so that you can get your password, so don't leave it until the last minute. Exile isn't easy, but the Dalai Lama managed. So can we. Pass the word to your lurker friends.

If it's OK with everyone, I'll put the same message in the protocol thread after the game today.

edit: bare bones, but draped in beautiful full features.

second edit: I removed the direct link after the game thread fiasco to avoid a lightning rod situation. If you need to find the site, send me a PM.

I'm finding it really hard to get myself worked up about today's game. I think I'll be seeing it more as a three-hour celebration of what has been a great season. Of course, would be nice to go out with a win, but dropping the last one (in which David McCarty pitched two innings!) didn't hurt things in '04.

There is no such thing as a Fake Edit, I am just an idiot who can't figure out how to put a secondary thought into my posts without this crutch: wow....Glavine pitched 1/3 of an inning in a must-win game.

I find it difficult to believe the regular season ends today.

Let's wrap it with a win, a beautifully pitched gem by JT, with multiple runs, perhaps a couple of bombs from Manny.

Yeah, I noticed starting a couple of days ago that one promo in particular had DO sound like he was deep in a can.

I think they are doing it on purpose to try out different effects, as well as having some of the promos being read by random producers / interns.

"The lurker game threads are going to be safe during the playoffs. The geeks are doing the best they can to improve the site. As you may or may not have noticed, the outages gave gone down over the past month or so."

The server has been more stable recently, I think (thanks Dopes and Geeks). It looks like we won't need to fall back on our fallback (but keep that lurker nation site bookmarked just in case). Big thanks and kudos to Orlando, and sorry I'm not posting pix of myself. You'll have to be content with

I found myself subconsciously cheering when I saw the 7-1 score - I'm not really sure why, because I don't care about '86 any more. I think it's just the schadenfreude of watching this train wreck of historic proportions. I guess I'm just a bad person.
