Come one come all to the end of the season. Where plobby and non plobby alike can get along in one game thread. Where The Great and Masterful The Great and Masterful Tom Ricardo, Purveyor and Seducer of Tawdry Sluts, Swordsman and Artist, the Herb Stempel of Bizarre Sexual Positions, God Among Men, Empress of India, the Finest Poster SOSH Has Ever Seen, Purveyor and Seducer of Tawdry Sluts, Swordsman and Artist, the Herb Stempel of Bizarre Sexual Positions, God Among Men, Empress of India, the Finest Poster SOSH Has Ever Seen vs 5BtG is nothing more than a funny time. Even Lucen can enjoy this time of year.

Lets Go Red Sox
Magic number went from 5 to 3 tonight (I'm west coast). How about 2 or even 1 tomorrow?

Well, I guess Torre has given up on the Division and decided to play for the WC and rest his 2-man bullpen.

Let's win today and get 1 game closer to a Division pennant.

I am one of those guys who felt something was missing in 2004 because we didn't win the Division. It was good mind you, but still less than perfect.

I don't want no freakin' Wild Card this year.

Win.

Me vs. The Tee-rik? Never. I love Tommy like the retarded baby brother I never had!

Curt looked October Curt last night, Manny looked like Manny last night, and J.D. Drew looked like Stan Fucking Musial last night.

The run has begun!

I didn't want to say anything before, because I feared it couldn't happen, but I really, really, really want the division.

And not, as Gordon Edes thinks, because beating the Yankees is more important to me/us than winning the WS, but because of the advantages for the team with the best record, and because it's always better to win than to lose. If the Yankees were in third place and Toronto in second, I'd want to beat out Toronto with all my heart.

So, Win Tonight, Fellas, OKAY?

Globe explains it as getaway day for the A's who are heading home to face LAAA. Weird thing is that the series doesn't start until Friday night.

Sox could have used something like that when they had to play an 8pm ESPN game then fly to Oakland for a 7pm start the next day.

Manny batting 2nd again today, and would likely be pulled after his 3rd AB. Crisp out again. -- per Tito on WEEI

Best line up we've seen in a long while...

Manny Ramirez was back in the lineup, hitting in the No. 2 spot for the second time since his return Tuesday from a strained left oblique that kept him out of the lineup since August 28. To the lineups we go ....

BOSTON

2B Dustin Pedroia
LF Manny Ramirez
DH David Ortiz
3B Mike Lowell
RF J.D. Drew
1B Kevin Youkilis
C Jason Varitek
CF Jacoby Ellsbury
SS Julio Lugo
SP Jon Lester (4-0, 4.45 ERA)

OAKLAND

LF Shannon Stewart
1B Daric Barton
CF Nick Swisher
DH Mike Piazza
RF Jack Cust
2B Mark Ellis
C Kurt Suzuki
3B Jack Hannahan
SS Donnie Murphy
SP Joe Blanton (14-10, 3.84 ERA)

Meanwhile, back in Arlington... the Rangers threw 3 runs up on Joe 'Pitching myself out of a playoff spot" Saunders in the first.

Good times.

Am I late for the party?

As begun yesterday in the lurker thread, I am spending the Yankees/Rays game in the Yankees games thread, to further their descent in the loss column. Ergo, I will not be here much after 7:10pm.

I read elsewhere on SOSH today that he was sick with a stomach bug that's going around the clubhouse.

The reason Terry gave for late scratch yesterday was illness. Maybe another night off would help Coco recover from whatever it is.

Now 5-0 and Matthews, Jr left the game with a leg injury, per EEI.

Well, have you ever watched a game?
They are always spitting, licking their hands, slapping hands, sharing food and drink, whispering, etc.
If there's an intestinal or other virus going around, that's a recipe for sharing.
Tonight, I hope Coco is at home or way to the end of the bench, and that the guys
WIN.

Fun stat:

Josh Beckett's 1st year in the majors vs. Clay Buchholz's year so far:

Beckett: 24 IP, 14 H, 1.50 ERA, 24/11 K/BB
Buchholz: 22.2 IP, 14 H, 1.59 ERA, 22/10 K/BB

One interesting thing about Manny hitting second I hadn't seen referenced elsewhere...always wondered if Manny protecting Ortiz was better or worse than Ortiz protecting Manny. This gives us a free peek at an alternative universe.

Well, in 2004 Manny batted 3rd and Papi 4th, not sure about 2003 though.

Edit: beaten to it while my computer was frozen.

Nice find. Didn't they have very similar results over 80 some odd innings in AA as well? Either way it's pretty fascinating as they're such different pitchers.

in 2004, I believe they started out as Manny 3rd and Papi 4th, and about 1/3 the way into the season they switched, and it's basically been that way ever since.

The Angels are about to be swept by the Rangers. Score's currently 11-2. Has anyone watched these games? Is Scoscia resting guys or what?

To answer my own question, he rested Guerrero twice, Cabrera once, but he isn't putting a AAA line-up out there by any means.

Angels now down 11-2 which would give them 67 losses. I believe we own the tiebreaker v them so we would have to lose four more to fall below them if they win out after this.

I don't see that happening.

We're gonna play the Angels. Just like in 2004. :buddy:
