Fuck 1978, Fuck the MFY, Fuck all the assholes who think we have lost the division when we are still pretty high favorites to win it.

We win with Beckett on the mound. We win and the MFY can do nothing to catch us, they can't do a damn thing about it. So we are fucking winning. We wrap up the AL East title next week. It starts with this game.

I now want to run through those dipshits from NY on the way to the World Series in playoffs.

If my sig line is too long, tough. DCHONG is our leader and we are but followers as he makes us take that first step to the Promised Land. Years from now, we will reference this thread as the turning point. Our children will ask us around the campfire if we remember where we were when DCHONG started this thread. The night will grow quiet as the forest wildlife and even the wind will go silent in hushed reverance. When we do speak, our answers will be collectively, "We were there!"

I love the alliteration. DCH has a way with words. Any relation to Cheech?

Two weeks ago, the Yankees’ chances of extending their season into October were slim. Today they are a lock to be at least the wild-card winner and are in position to claim their 10th straight AL East title by inching past a Red Sox team with a big apple stuck in their windpipe.

Any Sox player who sees less then 5 pitches per plate appearance tonight gets fined $100,000 per bad at bat.

Get Kazmir to reach his pitch out in the 5th and it's all good

Someone in that wiki fucked up. It says in the 1st consequence of not following the rules that Curt Schilling "jumped in" to start the '04 ALCS game 1 thread, as though he was interfering with someone else's winning streak.

He started ALDS game 1 that year and continued until he lost ALCS game 1.

FWIW... In 2006, Yom Kippur fell on Oct 1. The day of Devern Hansack's rainy no-hitter. Tito started the junior high JV squad, so there was no Youks (though honestly I don't remember if he was even standing upright that day; that whole crash landing is still a blur). However, the chosen people were represented by Gabe Kapler that day (1-3, 3 RBI).

Anyhoo.

ON! is the WIN.

Does Youkilis play on Yom Kippur?

I'm pretty sure he does. He played on Rosh Hashanah and a few years ago, the Rabbi was complaining that he, Kapler, and Theo set a bad example by playing on the High Holidays.

Don;t really want to start a whole religious debate. I know Shawn Green refused to play on Yom Kippur in the middle of a penant race. And I know Sandy Koufax refused to pitch on Yom Kippur (I believe it was the World Series even). I was just curious about wether he plays or doesn't.

Anyway, I am off the computer, news, TV, etc. for Yom Kippur. I may hear some news by word of mouth but otherwise nothing until late Saturday, so please win 2.

And for all of you I requote a very good joke posted in 2004:

Jewish guy walks up to his Rabbi and says, "Rabbi, I have a problem, this year on Yom Kippur, Pedro pitches against the Yankees right on Kal Nidre". The Rabbi says: "Son, that is why G-d invented the VCR". Man responds: "Really? You mean I can tape Kal Nidre??"

This page link says Youks did not play, but I realize that doesn't settle the question of whether or not he chose not to play or just wasn't put on the roster.

In Boston , the local papers focused on Gabe Kapler and Kevin Youkilis. Gabe Kapler decided to play, justifying his decision by proclaiming that all of the other days of the year he was not an observant Jew, why should he behave differently on this day? And Kevin Youkilis told the press to respect his desire for privacy and that the Red Sox organization was in agreement with his preferences for his personal observance of the holiday. While Gabe Kapler did appear in a game on Yom Kippur, Kevin Youkilis did not play.

I hope Hinske has been told not to take the bat off his shoulder.

Kazmir is on a 100 pitch limit... so if Hinske gets a ball and three strikes... he helps push Kasmir 4% of the way to the showers.

You're forgetting about the part where, immediately after the game, the Rays announce that they're shutting Kazmir down (or pushing his next start back a day) so he'll miss the Yankees series. I'm more confident that he won't face the Yankees on Thursday than I am that he'll be dominant tonight.

I expect Boston to explode for 6+ or get another 0-2 run game. Pretty much everything will hinge on getting Kazmir out of there quickly.
