Today, we get Jon Lester vs Edwin Jackson.

Given the lyric I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery yesterday, this seems appropriate.

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it

If that's not telling you to win, I dunno what is.
BEAT THEM

And everyone needs vid I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery.

Time to scare the MFY.

Repeat after me:

We lurkers willingly accept the impending departure of Tims4Wins and gladly look forward to the doom that will be visited upon us in return.

One more reason to win: TOR vs MVF: Starting pitcher is....Mike Mussina.

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind.

"Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

It's like I've always said. This far, and no further.

WIN!!!

Michael Jackson and Independence Day...not much there for me to work with. Elizabeth Taylor or McDonnell...yikes.

I guess, I'll just go with: Win.

Sorry about that. I'm kinda doing random stuff myself. You could go with '80 women or something? Just trying to be a good host here.

I was reminded of this recently, and it is funny as hell.

Hmm...I'm not convinced that Pat Benetar or Stevie Nicks I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery is what we're looking for here, although it's certainly preferable to pedophile I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery.

Deeply disappointed when, upon kicking in my $25 to the Jimmy Fund last night, I was unable to find "Degenerate SoSH Lurker Making Good On Game Thread Pledge" amongst the choices on their list of "Occasions for giving". They're really overlooking a niche market.

Win.

I choose Paulina Porizkova. Hot, smart, funny. Perfect girl. And in keeping with the music I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery. Damn you Ric Ocasek.

The title of this thread is cut off when viewing from the subforums menu. When I clicked on it, I thought it was going to say, "Lester vs. the Sixth Inning".

Bob Dylan says 60s women are beyond compare:

When Ruthie says come see her
In her honky-tonk lagoon,
Where I can watch her waltz for free
neath her Panamanian moon.
And I say, aw come on now,
You must know about my debutante.
And she says, your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want.

And here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

The bears are gorged, but the eagles are still hungry: more Eat-the-Fish I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery from BC:

I was standing
All alone against the world outside
You were searching
For a place to hide
Lost and lonely
Now you've given me the will to survive
When we're hungry...love will keep us alive

I'm sure being from Washington, Jon Lester has heard of these boys.

She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak
I've been locked in heart-shaped coffins for too many weeks
You've drawn me into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could kill your cancer when I am black
- Heart-Shaped Box [box set lyrics]

How about a Seattle grunge band that actually survived the 90's?

Hey, I, I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, oh, I'm still alive

Hmmm, I always heard 'magnet tar' as 'magnetar', which made me imagine some bad-ass looking planet-based space gun that shoots some sort of plasma or ion stuff impelled by a huge magnetic field.

Here's a picture of the magnetar field coalescing - it's just about to start lasing once the energy fields reverse and the phase alignment containment arrays collapse.

Any Jackson who wears only one glove - even if it is on his left hand - is doomed to have his effort end in failure. Any early success he has in the early going will be ruined by a jealous Tito, who will sabotage Edwin's Victory Tour" with a Thriller performance. That's right - Jackson will lose when facing the serious charge of mo' Lester!

WIN!

Red Sox

1. Julio Lugo, SS
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. J.D. Drew, RF
6. Jason Varitek, C
7. Randy Moss, LF
8. Coco Crisp, CF
9. Eric Hinske, 1B

Starting Pitcher - Jon Lester

Rays

1. Akinori Iwamura, 3B
2. Carl Crawford, LF
3. Carlos Pena, 1B
4. B.J. Upton, CF
5. Delmon Young, RF
6. Brendan Harris, 2B
7. Jonny Gomes, DH
8. Dioner Navarro, C
9. Josh Wilson, SS

Starting Pitcher - Edwin Jackson

If Jackson didn't have an ERA of 6 and WHIP of 1.65 I might be mildly concerned about the Sox lineup tonight.

Edit: Globe Extra Bases had "Randy Moss" in LF tonight. That's pretty funny.
Edit2: Now I'm thinking it was intentional, nevermind. My head may be squarely up my ass today.

Who knew that Boston had its own Bo Jackson-style two sport star? (Look who's batting 7th).

Lowell and Ellsbury get rested, after they had great nights. Lowell I'm fine with, but with Ellsbury being on fire and the off day tomorrow, I wonder about that move.

edit: the globe blog now says Ellsbury's wrist is sore from banging into the monster. Hopefully it heals quickly. Maybe Moss can get some good swings in against the tampa "pitchers".

Moss in LF, Hinske at first, Youks at his distant-second-best position...how many square pegs can Tito try to cram in round holes? Let's hope Lester's found his strikeout pitch.

Now, I view Jackson's stats as a cause for concern. Give me a nice Mussina type with a 4.5 ERA any day.

Do you think Randy Moss would get the green light to steal? Perhaps someone could throw him a football from the dugout to help the mood. Maybe Tito just holds to the 8th commandment really strongly.

I gotta admit, Ellsbury looked like he was really dragging. Only one home run and he didn't break the sound barrier all night. Can't blame Tito there.

It's all good. It's Edwin Mothereffing Jackson for crying out loud. Hinske goes yard, Moss drives in 3, Youks = Brooks Robinson, and our very own cancer-free lefty goes a strong 7. Maybe another good night for some Jimmy Fund donations?

"Red Sox manager Terry Francona had to make some adjustments to his lineup for the third and final game of the series against the Devils Ray Wednesday night.

Francona said third baseman Mike Lowell was out because of illness, possibly food poisoning, so Kevin Youkilis moved into his spot and Eric Hinske was installed at first base. With Ellsbury out because of an ailing wrist, Brandon Moss was called on to play left field. "

Interesting... NESN was mentioning (right before it blacked out for me) that the Rays lead the league in team pitching strikeouts (1,053), but also have the league's worst team ERA (5.61).

Boston's got the best team ERA (3.84), and is second in team pitching strikeouts (1,023).

I'm not going to invoke any lyric I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery (although many thanks to whomever posted a picture of that dreamy Eddy Vedder); in fact, I'm not invoking any I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery at all. I'm just going to recite the facts:

The Rays suck.
The Red Sox do not suck.

Therefore, the jury has no choice but to render a verdict of WIN.
