Josh Beckett likes profanity....a lot. To paraphrase a line from a great movie, Josh works in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It is his true medium, a master.

What did Josh do when he perceived that Joba Chamberlain had thrown a pair of pitches as Kevin Youkilis' head? Did he call Joba a "jerk," or even an "asshole?" Hell no! Instead, he blasted the fatass with what is possibly the most obscene word in the American English language.

Why does he do this? Because it engenders intensity. It gives those around him more fire, more desire to kick ass and win.

Don't believe me? Well, if it rubbed off on his cat this much, imagine how intense his teammates will be today while Josh is on the mound:

(Note - this picture was taken a couple days ago when Josh's cat was cut off by Joba on the Mass Pike. Joba was, of course, driving a 1982 Monte Carlo with fluorescent wiper blades and reinforced shocks.)

I just laughed too loud at "You cunt" as I was finishing my coffee and about to head out to work...my wife said, "Now what?"

Win.

(btw I think that every pre-game post should have some fucking profanity in it)

:( That's awesome.

My cat always felt the same way whenever she was stuck behind some dumbfuck going 40 MPH in the left lane in a 65 MPH zone

The speed limit tonight is 96 MPH. Bluejays, get the hell out of Josh's way.

If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right
If being right means being without you
I'd rather live a wrong doing life
Your mama and daddy say it's a shame
It's a downright disgrace
Long as I got you by my side
I don't care what your people say

Your friends tell you there's no future
in loving a married man
If I can't see you when I want to
I'll see you when I can
If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right
If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right

Am I wrong to fall so deeply in love with you
knowing I got a wife and two little children
depending on me too
And am I wrong to hunger
for the gentleness of your touch
knowing I got somebody else at home
who needs me just as much

And are you wrong to fall in love
with a married man
And am I wrong trying to hold on
to the best thing I ever had
If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right
If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right

Are you wrong to give your love
to a married man
And am I wrong trying to hold on
to the best thing I ever had
If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right
If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right

I don't wanna be right
if it means sleeping alone at night
I don't wanna be right
if it means coming home at night
I don't wanna, I don't wanna
I don't wanna never, never, never be right

WIN

Terry Gilliam lives.

I myself will be going straight into the Heart of Darkness, the Mordor, the Death Star that is the Toilet tonight to take my MFY-loving son* to their game this evening for his upcoming birthday. Watching the Mariners beat Wang all night will undoubtedly bring back many happy memories of sock-humping smiley faces...

How could you let that happen? Is it one of those things where you shoved the Sox so far down his throat that he just threw it up and picked the MFY instead?

Well anyways, we've got a formula going here. One part of it is me making a comment about killing birds and posting a picture, like this one:

Posted Image

The other core components will be along eventually I'm sure - the sexiest woman alive and an obscure post about Tina from 4 days ago. Then I'll leave the game thread and we're ready for the final component of the formula........

Win.

I to will be in the toliet tonight with my former boss, mfy fan, to poke fun, torture and take whatever abuse and rile up the puke intucing MFY's fans.

Just WIN and then i can take pleasure in reminding all those puke inducing fans to eat the floaters left behind in the toliet which some people call a baseball team, whom we prefer to call the MFY's.

Ah, got it. The Man On Fire quote I was thinking of is actually "A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasy's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece." Actually a pretty good movie.

Sad that I'd never heard of a Christmas Story. Guess it's a byproduct of growing up outside the U.S.

Honestly, today may be one of the few days where I care more about the Yankees* losing than about the Sox winning (usually, my priority list goes 1. Sox win, 2. MFY lose, very distant 3. everything else). I really want to see the Mariners stay alive in the wild card race - even if, god forbid, the MFY eventually get in the playoffs, it would be good to at least make them sweat it out until the end. Seeing their fans panicking will be hilarious.

* I submit that use of this word fulfills the Pre-Game Post Profanity Requirement

…bring back many happy memories of sock-humping smiley faces...

Until the next morning
He woke up in bed,
With a grin on his lips
And an ache in his head,
And a smiley in his mind
That tickled and said:
You know, I could really use a wash…

And the streak goes on, where the sock has been: alright Lurker Nation, it’s time for your daily Bob Dylan:

Now I’ve always been the kind of person that doesn’t like to trespass but sometimes you just find yourself over the line.
Oh if there’s an original thought out there, I could use it right now.
You know, I feel pretty good, but that ain’t sayin’ much. I could feel a whole lot better,
If you were just here by my side to show me how.

You know, it's funny how things never turn out the way you had 'em planned.
The only thing we knew for sure about Henry Porter is that his name wasn't Henry Porter.
And you know there was somethin' about you baby that I liked that was always too good for this world
Just like you always said there was something about me you liked that I left behind in the French Quarter.

Strange how people who suffer together have stronger connections than people who are most content.
I don’t have any regrets, they can talk about me plenty when I’m gone.
You always said people don't do what they believe in, they just do what's most convenient, then they repent.
And I always said, hang on to me, baby, and let's hope that the roof stays on.

Brownsville girl with your Brownsville curls, teeth like pearls shining like the moon above
Brownsville girl, show me all around the world, Brownsville girl, you're my honey love.

Maybe a season or two of the Yanks out of the playoffs and the Sox winning the W.S. will turn him. Very sad though that you couldn't stop this from happening in the first place. I have a half a mind to call Child Protective Services on you.

Lurker nation is on fire. The rookies are on fire.

We hit a new high yesterday. 1340 replies and 13, 396 views (?) for the game thread. The previous high was July 28 when we hit 1337 and no other game thread comes close to number of views. In August alone we have had 4 days with replies hitting over 1000. In April, May our replies were like 100 -200 and we have steadily increased all summer to an average of over 500 per game.

Yesterday's game thread also rolled along nicely until 7:42 with an innocent comment by Rosie and then seemingly all hell broke loose. I still can't figure out how President Bush figured into things.

In any event, quite a game thread (all star rating) and quite a game, despite the imploding of the mound, it was lots of hits and all fun. What a display. Tonight we should keep hitting, but mixing in a few strikes through ALL innings would be nice.

Carry on you loquacious lurkers - you take these games to another level.

Carry on Josh!! You're the ace.

He's never faced Halladay before. Cy Young pitcher vs. a rookie is usually a mismatch. Lugo hits .282 against Doc in 39 at bats, though only a .676 OPS. He's been hitting the ball well lately, I don't mind this decision.
