Is this part of that "lack of a killer instinct" thing?

This is a pretty big game for the Sox (all things considered) with G38 going tomorrow....maybe not the best time to start trying people out in relatively new positions.

I love the fact that the mainboard gamethread broke this rule in their thread (I know it doesn't apply to them...but its funny nonetheless) with Debbie the she-male at 1:05pm today. I also love that you expect us to follow your rather strict set of rules but yet managed to break one rule that game threads are supposed to follow. I'll try to play along (tonight at least) post no pics and write nothing but pithy comments that are completely focused on the game. I will also try not to invoke any sort of I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery. Sprowl and Brood are both relieved to be done counting syllables so you shouldn't have any worries on that front. But tell me honestly, didn't some of those haiku make you spit beer out of your nose?

After tonight I will be disregarding your "rules" when I fell appropriate regardless of tonight's outcome. Some of the things I like about our threads are that they [usually] have no rules, are fun, are almost always cordial and usually make me laugh (multiple times). Sprowl has pointed out some rather good game threads from months past. I wonder if this one will also get a 5-star rating for anything other than the final score. I hope so.

I would question whether that picture actually qualifies as a scantily clad "woman".

To be honest the timing thing was some technological disconnect between my computer and SoSH. My computer said 12:00 am, apparently SoSH disagreed.

In general I enjoy the haiku as a form of expression in unexpected places, such as a gamethread. I think I just got tired of reading everything in syllables and three lines at a time. Every time I saw a haiku I had to count the syllables to make sure and that just bugged me after the first hundred or so. I eventually just stopped even reading posts in haiku form.

I just think that - much like the Red Sox - we needed to change things up after last night. With no haiku, no I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery, and no sexy half-naked fishing bimbos, we'll just have to be creative in other ways. Don't forget grade school english class - similes, metaphors, and especially analogies are all welcome.

Tonight I want to see the pure, simple joy for Red Sox baseball that brings everyone into the gamethreads to begin with, just without the spiritual mumbo jumbo (which I most certainly do enjoy on occasion). And if they win, I couldn't care less if it's the most boring game thread of the season. Baseball is going to stand on its own tonight. If they lose, I'll be happy to re-engage in the extensive use of I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery and the highly erotic enjoyment of your seemingly endless catalog of gorgeous woman, which I appreciate to no end.

The current Sox have amassed a .580 OPS against Clemens.

http://sports.espn.g...p?playerId=1427

Trot Nixon and Todd Walker may finally be missed if tonight does not go well.

The rest of the AL probably doesn't look too good overall either but that hasn't stopped anyone from hitting him well this season. Not the same Clemens as when most of these players put up those numbers.

Edit: Foulkey beat me to it.

This is what was posted on Peter Abrahams blog

Here are the lineups:

YANKEES
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Matsui DH
Posada C
Giambi 1B
Cano 2B
Cabrera CF
Clemens RHP (5-5, 4.34)

RED SOX
Lugo SS
Pedroia 2B
Ortiz DH
Lowell 3B
Youkilis 1B
Drew RF
Varitek C
Crisp CF
Hinske LF
Beckett RHP (16-5, 3.21)

Regardless of who plays where tonight....there is an amazing lack of pop in that line up without Manny

If true that was fortunately just a short but frightening nightmare. I'm not even talking about Lugo in LF - Cora playing would have pissed me off more than anything. Hinske at least has the ability to "run into one", as Tito would say about WMP. Cora has put up a string of what seems like 50 consecutive terrible at bats. Long story short, he would make Clemens look good, which is the opposite of what we're going to do tonight.

True dat...I'd rather have Lugo playing a position he actually plays on a regular basis and much rather have Hinske in there instead of Cora.

If Hinske gets on base late and close, we could be looking at Cora PR->SS and Lugo SS->LF.
That said, there's enough LF out there for Lugo to have a decent chance to "run into one."

If you hit a grounder to right hard enough, it could hop the fence. Maybe.

Does the DH HAVE to bat for the pitcher, or can you just pull one player out of the lineup and sub the DH. You can see where I'm going with this.

Anyway, I'm stuck with the radio for at least the first half of this game, so dear god let the Sox be winning. Geffner is just unbearable during losses. If you have nothing to say, don't say anything.

Lugo needs to stay hot at the top of the lineup. He just had the triple last night (just...), but he could easily have been three for three the way he hit the ball. Damon leapt for one on the track, and he smoked a liner too close to Cabrera.

Stay hot, Julio!

Clemens:

I have up 6 runs in 4 innings because _________.

a) The wind was blowing at my chest
b) It was hot out
c) I have a blister on my foot
d) Debbie hit me in the face with one of her bedazzlers
e) I wasn't getting the outside corner
f) all of the above

I feel confident that we will score 4-6 runs off Clemens, and another off Edwar.

Beckett will pitch seven innings of two-run ball. Our bullpen is good, good enough to win the game.

This is my feeling about what will happen.

I have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that we would see Joba if need be tonight. Would Torre pull out the stops like that?

Hopefully, the offense makes that irrelevant and they coast behind Beckett.

Winning is better than losing. So win.

Must....not....complete....haiku.....

About the lineup--you know, there's an old proverb, or something, that says "Sometimes you must build the temple on one hill so that the fire from heaven can descend upon another."

Eric Hinske has hit 84 homers and knocked in 334 runs in a big league uniform. He only needs to add a tiny bit to those totals tonight to make us all happy. We're not asking him to do anything he's never done before. We're just asking for really good timing. We're asking for the fire from heaven to descend upon Eric Hinske at 7:05 pm on August 29, 2007.

Could happen.

Eric Hinske is a fucking baller.

He has a decent amount of talent, enough to be one of the better starters on a bad team. I'd say he's better than, for example, Randy Winn, to choose an example who's been on my mind lately. That said, he's a role player on a good team, and he has the attitude for that. I like the guy a lot.

I would like the guy even more if he'd go three for four tonight with an RBI or two.
