Tonight the Sox take on the Rockies at the Fens.

Timmy will pitch. Boston will win.

Fenway's deep rightfield combined with Boston's dense sea air will run wild all over the Rockies. They don't stand a chance.

I lived in CO through 2000 and went to a few games at Coors field. Nice place there but it wasn't baseball I was watching. Some kind of pinball with about 6-7 home-runs each night I went to watch. Killed all the strategy of the game.

Of course, that was pre humidor but still.

On top of that insult to the game, they served fried bull testicles at the concession stands "Rocky Mountain Oysters."

That's just nasty.

In sum, a pretenders club. Defeat them soundly.

Someone was listening to Planet Mike last night...although the lineup Mike proposed was with Tek in the 7 hole and Coco at 8.

Just WIN baby!

Wow - Pedroia and Youks 1/2? Just how many folks on SoSH would pencil them in.

Of course, the bottom of the lineup wouldn't be a lot weaker if we drew straws in the bullpen. But hey, I guess that's why they call it "the bottom"...

Dropping Coco and Lugo to the 7-9 spots is what many are advocating. You lose speed at the top of the order, Pedroia might not score from first on a double by Youkilis, but he has a better shot at being on first than Lugo or Coco (at this point). If Coco and Lugo do get on base, then that gives Pedroia and Youkilis a shot at getting a rally going, or setting the table for Papi. You can play small ball with the bottom of the order.

Also, I hope Coco and Lugo can be more relaxed at the plate.

With Lugo and Crisp separated by Mirabelli - Doug sure isn't a good contact man, hit and run won't be an option. This is definitely a batting order worth trying. Hopefully tomorrow it will be the same, only with 7-8-9 being Varitek-Lugo-Crisp.

By the way, if Pedroia gets on to start an inning and Youk doubles, you can be pretty sure the DP eventually scores with Ortiz-Ramirez-Drew coming up, and men on 2nd and 3rd. So Pedroia's remarkable lack of speed won't matter all that much. The sad situation - DP won't go to 3rd on many singles by Youk or Papi. Still - he's an opportunistic baserunner, albeit not a swiftie. By the way, what's the rank in speed between Varitek-Youk-Pedroia-Lowell? I think they're pretty close. Papi and Manny are slower than all four of them, and Crisp-Lugo-Drew faster. Reactions?

I wonder if Mirabelli knows how to bunt? I expect that if Lugo or Crisp were on 1b while Pedroia or Youkilis was at the plate, they'd more likely attempt to steal than try to hit and run, but who knows, maybe the H&R would surprise the opposition.

I'd rank them Crisp-Lugo-Drew-Youk-Tek-Manny-Lowell-Pedroia-Papi.

Manny can motor around the bases, even though he rumbles or glides in the outfield. If his hamstrings aren't acting up, I'd take him over Lowell. Pedroia is seriously slow! In the field he's quick but not fast (John Bagley comes to mind, if you want a basketball analogy): he's got quick reactions, a good first two steps, a reliable dive and a nimble pivot. The rest of him is SLOOOW.

I'm surprised and pleased that Tito has tweaked the lineup again. The first four in tonight's lineup really are the station-to-station OBP Sox. I never liked watching Lugo or Crisp steal with Papi coming up. Now when (if?) they get on base, I want them running! Crisp won't see many fastballs in front of Dougie, but if he can bunt for a hit, three big Stud whiffs should be plenty of opportunity for Crisp to steal.

I have to work until a meeting at 7:00, and probably won't into my car to turn on the radio until the 6th inning. Please beat these oxygen-deprived National League nutbags and make me happy. Wake has some weather, which is good.

Don't suck, just win.

The date is wrong in the game thread.... you put the 11th. You posted at 11:11 AM. You have 11 posts. I don't want to be a stickler, but I get the feeling there may be a karmic relevance to this. Can we amend it by 7:05? Or should I take this new and improved lineup to be a sign?

Damn... creepy.

I noticed the wrong date right after it was posted and am unsure how to change it to the 12th...

I love Lugo down at 9.

One plus is that Coco and Lugo will be more likely to run wild. At least they're fast... :gonk:

He is not a very good bunter: 4 career sacrifices, with the last one in 2001 (his only one for the Red Sox). In other words, Mirabelli has more steals (2) in a Boston uniform than sacrifice bunts.

From what I've seen, Cook keeps the ball up far more than Wang does. His FB has the same movement, but his location is definitely not as precise. He's left more than a few pitches at the belt.

This game is flying, very un Red Sox like.

Therefore, I propose a nice long 20 minute bottom of the 3rd, with an accompanying crooked number.

Crisp-Belli-Lugo has to compete for the worst back-to-back-to back hitters in Red Sox history. Hell, maybe major league history.

I think we should pull the trigger on a Helton deal. Lowell is going to be nursing that bad thumb the rest of the year. Trade Lowell, Tavarez, and Hansen for Helton; make Colorado eat half of his contract; call up Lester; then trade WMP and Delcarmen for Aaron Rowand. Make Coco your 4th OF. THEN you have a championship team!

There is no such thing as a Fake Edit, I am just an idiot who can't figure out how to put a secondary thought into my posts without this crutch: the pitcher gets a hit!
