I thought I'd start this in the interest of keeping things easier to read and apart from just the Pats and General Mock Draft threads. A place to comment on the picks as the draft moves along.

As far as news, no major outlet is reporting this but Tom Casale of Patriots.com is saying that Denver and Houston may have a trade.

It’s being reported that the Broncos and Texans have swapped first round picks, with Houston getting Denver’s second round selection as well. As PFW reported earlier in the day, the Broncos wanted to get up to 10 in case Adrian Peterson falls. With rumors circulating that Peterson may need surgery, the Broncos believe they will be able to get the star runner with the 10th overall pick. There are three players the Broncos are targeting here: Peterson, Patrick Willis and Amobi Okoye. But make no mistake about it, if Peterson is on the board when Denver picks, he will become a Bronco. Great trade for Denver. They are now guaranteed to get an impact player and that player could be the top rated running back in the draft.

The Broncos are also rumored to be interested in Calvin Johnson. However, now that they’ve given away their second round pick, I don’t think they have enough ammo to trade up to the second spot. The Lions are asking for a lot and with the number of teams trying to get Johnson, I don’t see the Broncos making it up that high. My guess is they sit at 10 and grab one of the three players mentioned above. Then again, Matt Millen is an idiot, so anything is possible. The more pressing concern for Patriots fans is that the Broncos could leave Saturday with either Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson.

The original and greatest reality show of them all.

Two of my favorite days of the year... and hearing Belichick on WEEI saying, "Their are players that will be drafted in the first round tomorrow that we have rated as undrafted free agents" has me really excited.

Buckle up, it shall be as fun as always.

BTW, for shits and giggles... The trave vaule chart shows that the Broncos are giving up 1140 points (21 & 56) and the Texans are giving 1300 points (10).

That's a crazy Weis quote.

It makes sense that Houston didn't get value, trading down...this year it's a buyer's market to move up in the draft.

Exactly, and might that be where Belichick finds value...?

He said on the radio today teams are offering to take 24 and 28 for an earlier 1st and a 2nd.

I love this shit from Belichick.

Jets draft blunders

Funny funny stuff. It's amazing how bad these picks are. I love that Tagliabue starts laughing after the Blair Thomas pick. He knew it was stupid.

Just heard that news in Detroit is saying that the Lions will take Johnson at #2 and trade him.

On a side note, I know Bowe is still at the bottom of the 1st in a lot of mocks, but I feel like I have not heard ANYONE utter his name in weeks.

The Raiders shopped wide receiver Randy Moss around the league today, hoping to unload the disgruntled wide receiver and his hefty salary on the eve of the NFL Draft, multiple league and team sources confirmed.

New Raiders coach Lane Kiffin spent part of Friday trying to attract a first-day draft pick in exchange for Moss, who has not backed down from trade demands that began midway through last season.

The Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots are believed to have talked with the Raiders, but neither was willing to give up the asking price -- believed to be something as high as a second-round draft pick in today's draft.

"They will not be trading the pick right now, barring a blockbuster deal. The Lions met as an organization, with their owner, on Friday and decided that they will take Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson. There does not appear to be any posturing here whatsoever.

"Mike Martz, the Lions' offensive coordinator, got everybody so fired up about Calvin Johnson and the way that they can use him, that Detroit has settled on Calvin Johnson. Assuming that the Raiders do go with JaMarcus Russell and assuming that nobody makes a blockbuster offer.

"The cost of any team going up there is going to be extremely high, it's unlikely to happen. So right now it looks like Calvin Johnson is Detroit bound."

According to a league source, San Francisco and division rival Seattle are close to finalizing a trade that would send Seahawks wide receiver Darrell Jackson to the Niners in exchange for one of their fourth-rounders, believed to be the Niners' third selection in the round, No. 124 overall.

Does this set the market for Moss at a 3rd round pick?

GREEN BAY - The long- rumored trade that would bring Oakland wide receiver Randy Moss to the Green Bay Packers moved considerably closer to reality Friday night as the teams were discussing the parameters of a deal, according to an NFL source.

The trade could be consummated during today's NFL draft, the source said. But the source also said that the trade still faces several road blocks - the Raiders coming down in their asking price, the existence of two other interested teams, and Moss agreeing to a restructured contract.

The Packers are offering a fourth-round pick for Moss, the source said. Moss is set to earn base salaries of $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in '08, and the Packers, the source said, won't make the deal unless his contract is reworked.

The source said the Packers and New England Patriots were among the teams to have talked with the Raiders, but neither was willing meet Oakland's asking price. A third team also is believed to be interested.

An industry source tells us that the Pats have offered a conditional fourth-rounder.

Crap, at this point I'd flinch and offer a conditional third rounder for Moss with a "the contract must get re-worked" clause.

How in the hell would Moss possibly fit onto the Pats salary structure? Unless Asante is moved, and Randy restructures his contract, I can't see any way he'd fit. On the other hand, if you added him...holy crap, the Patriots passing attack would be nigh on unstoppable. Can you imagine the Patriots running out Moss, Stallworth, Welker, and Watson all at once? How about with Maroney in the backfield, or worse yet for a pass defense, Kevin Faulk?

Bill is most certainly not screwing around.

I am in Iraq right now where the internet is roughly equivalent to dial up circa 1996, so I can't plow through all the relevent threads and news so I apologize if this has been discussed ad nauseum, but...

Is there any chance that Asante Samuel gets dealt today? It seems that with the whole tatoo about getting paid, the franchise tag might make him willing to hold out the enitre year. Thanks.

How can anyone not like the draft? Sure, the hype and endless mocks are a bit much sometimes. The only thing I'd change is making it 10 minutes to pick 15 stretches it out far too long, especially if your team isn't in the top 20.

After seeing that mock draft, would the Pats take Okoye if he falls to them?

He wouldn't be able to make a immediate impact on our D-line, but would Belichick hesitate on the chance to mold this kid?

I would totally applaud a kid among the expected top picks who didn't go to New York, who didn't let espn bring cameras into his house, who just watched on tv and answered calls with his family and friends around him. But I don't think any of 'em are gonna do that.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions are close to a deal that would send the No. 2 overall pick in the draft -- presumably, receiver Calvin Johnson -- to the Bucs.

Whatever. Russell is a beast.

He may be but the various commenters keep citing his size and arm as the reasons for picking him. Is he an accurate passer? Does he read defenses well? Is he a good leader of a team? Maybe so, but all we seem to hear is "Boy is he big! Wow, he's got a great arm!"
