If you predicted a year ago that the only Sox regulars to make it to September unscathed were named Mark Loretta and Mike Lowell, you can collect your prize now.

Does Lowell always slam his helmet on the ground after lining balls off the pitcher?

 If you predicted Matt Garza would one-hit the Sox through four, collect your significanty less impressive prize.

Per Gameday: "Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis left the game due to an injured neck/shoulder."

He needs to learn to follow the liners to right more gently.

While we're waiting for the game to stop sucking check out Hinske's splits for 2006. I'm guessing this is his match.com personal ad:

"Burly, athletic, Rasputin-esque bachelor seeks lovable platoon partner. I like playing the outfield, batting seventh, and hitters' counts. Don't bother if you're from Seattle."

I'm sure everyone's seen this, but it's always good for a laugh (Bert's the Twins' color guy):

One of these days, maybe when I retire, I am going to have time to study how the Twins do it. I remember watching them during some obscure game and actually feeling sorry for them because they were so pathetic and so far behind Detroit and Chicago. May or early June?
Is the manager that good, the farm sytem, luck? Year after year, they are a factor, got to admit, love to see them take the American League
( unless we do actually run the table and win the one game playoff)

They draft, sign, trade for, and develop all this good young pitching, and they don't trade them to NL teams for overpaid vets. And their coaching staff doesn't screw them all up trying to fix things that aren't broken before turning them loose prematurely in front of bloodthirsty hordes. And they put good defenses behind them to help them out.

Not really any other way they can do it as a small/mid-market team and a cheapskate owner.

Bloodthirsty hordes? Red Sox Nation? What warmer and more supportive embrace could there be?

The development program for Hansen really backfired, didn't it? Send him to the minors, stretch him out, and make him use his changeup. When he gets back to the majors, the changeup never shows, he's lost his slider, and he can't pitch more than one inning.

Interesting note, since July 26 the Sox have won 20 games, they also lost 31.

16 of the W's were 2 runs or less

2 of the W's were by 3 runs.

Only 2 of the W's were of the easy variety (more than 3 runs).

In the same period we lost 31 games. Only 18 games were losses by 3 runs or less, the other 13 L's were by more than 3 runs.

So of the last 15 games decided by more than 3 runs, the Sox have won only 2 of them.

I guess the good news is that in the last 51 games, 36 were close games keeping us on the edge of our seats, and Tito chewing on his cheeks.

Guess I am a little bored

Bitterness alert- Why would the words Gabe Kapler and pinch hitter ever be used in the same inning?
