I wonder how many El Tiante pitches Tavarez will throw tonight?

I also agree with the Papelbon idea, fwiw. Let's see what he's got as a SP. That could go a ways (or at least give us some data) towards answering the major question being discussed on the main board.

I think the stage is set for one of those Brogna-esque surprises tonight! (Or a complete disaster and embarressment).

Go time! We have nothing left to lose!

Dave McCarty suits up and combines with Jose Canseco for a CG shutout. They rotate between P & 1B depending on the batter matchup Canseco pitches to righties, McCarty to lefties.

I also am not totally opposed to stretching Papelbon out and seeing how he does in a few starts. Although it wouldn't be indicitive of much, obviously, considering he has not prepared to be a starter this season. Still, it might be interesting but probably not worth any potential injury risk.

FWIW. I would prefer them to come up with phantom injury and shut him down. I am wary the effect of all of the super high leverage innings on such a intergral part of the future coupled with releiving starting and releiving again in 05 and I think it would be best for all parties if we just let him sit.

I have been saying it all week. And Tavarez is the one who will heed my advice. High and tight, right from the start. Everyone BJ batter should be deathly afraid of getting nailed tonight. NOTE< I said "BJ" and "nailed" in one post.

God I'd love to see a Tavarez full-on psych meltdown leading to
a brawl either with the Blue Jays or intrasquad (what the hell).

Of course ejections follow and we have to put pitchers out in
the field somewhere because we don't have enough subs.

This is what was supposed to happen because greenies were
outlawed, right? Just saying..

I, for whatever reason, predict a brawl within this series.

Boston's only way to show they care is to fight for the season. What better way to get that done than with Wild Man Tav on the mound.

... I for one am ready for August 2006 to go to straight to hell.

WIN.

Love this situation right now-- separates the wheat from the chaffe. Reminds me of the mid-1980s when the Ox stunk up the joint, and there was no bandwagon upon which to jump either on or off.

The ticket situation (2-fer-1, 10 bucks a ticket, freebies!!) makes me laugh out loud!! I would guess 30-40% of the current Red Sox fan base comes from those Idiots of'04. They are fans of winning, not of the Red Sox. They are fans of Johnny Damon's beard, naked pull ups, midgets in the locker room, shaved heads, "Cowboy Up," Pedro's shimmies in the dugout, 35 second hand-shakes, hugs all around, Cabrera's little-boy energy, Millar's neverending rambles, fights over a 180-stitched piece of cow hide, and do-rags, backwards hats, and quotable Manny. They are fans of the 3-run homer, the 12-2 win, the "wave," and singign "Sweet Caroline."

They are not fans of a beautifully executed double play, or a flawless left-handed swing, or coming all the way back from a 3-0 count with strike three on the black, or the importance of the 1-1 pitch, or the difference between a lead off a lefty or righty pitcher, or hitting to the right side to move a runner to third, or a perfectly-executed double-cut. None of this matters a hill of beans to them.

They want Hollywood and VIne (Newbury and Arlington), ESPN leads, 28 SUnday Night Baseball telecasts, and replays of "The Curse of THE Bambino" late at night. The actual games is secondary to a greed of notariety, omnipresent press, and incessant blithering on radio talk shows.

I feel like I have my Olde Towne Team back, before the "Nation" was selling ID cards and pink "B" hats. Jump off the sinking "S.S. Red Sox", you dirty rats, your fleas carry the plague of the front-runners with you! I loved sitting with 25,000 real fans and not expecting much, other than baseball from the guys in white. I loveds listening to that guy yell "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaade" for 9 innings in the 80s, only the organ music and peanuts/hot dogs and just baseball--just hits, flips to the second-baseman, 3-6-3 DPs, turning singles into doubles, and real fans of the game--THE GAME--what a concept!!-- in the stands.

I can walk to Fenway now any night, get a standing-room ticket, stand between sections 16 and 17 and watch the game with 35,000 BASEBALL fans! What a concept!!!

Well, they were playing so well before Manny got injured that he has a point. And to be honest, I'm not so sure that the Red Sox pitchers can throw strikes when Manny's not in the lineup. I'm so sick of Manny and his Dominicanness; at least Jim Thome's white and doesn't complain to the media.

I spent about $200 to watch them this past Sunday in
Seattle. I'm still waiting for them to show up.

It's almost over though. As a fan, I consider a season
successful if they're competitive enough to the point where
I think "this could be the year.." at any point during the
season. And almost every season they meet that goal.

I love baseball but I could never be a Rays, Royals,
or Mariner's fan under their current ownerships.

Now *there's* something that could make things worse! Imagine he
gets 4 starts between now and the end of the season and absolutely
dominates and then the FO gets over-zealous and pencil's him into
the rotation for next season and adjusts their goals accordingly.

Ok, yep, I need a slap upside the head to get rid of all of this CHB
