Columbia pitches 'Moneyball' to Pitt
Zaillian to write, Frankel to direct adaptation
By TATIANA SIEGEL

Brad Pitt is adding to his busy schedule by playing ball for Columbia.

Steve Zaillian has signed on to adapt Michael Lewis’ nonfiction bestseller "Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game," and David Frankel is attached to direct. Project is being developed as a potential starring vehicle for Brad Pitt.

Book’s subject is Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane, who assembled a contending baseball club on a shoestring budget by employing a sophisticated computer-based analysis to draft players.

Michael De Luca is producing alongside Rachael Horovitz.

Stan Chervin penned an earlier draft based of the book, which Sony optioned in 2004. "Moneyball" was first published by W. W. Norton in 2003.

Zaillian last teamed with the studio on "All the King’s Men," which he wrote, directed and produced. His recent screenplay credits include "American Gangster" and "Gangs of New York."

Frankel, who directed Fox 2000’s "The Devil Wears Prada," most recently helmed the Owen Wilson-Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy "Marley & Me," also for Fox 2000. That film opens Christmas Day.

How does the book become a movie with a plot and resolution and narrative and stuff?

Who plays Scott Hatteberg?

The mind reels.

I can see this becoming "Moneyball, how Joe Morgan understood it."
Foulkey Reese
Steve Buscemi as Chad Bradford.

I'm thinking Jonah Hill and Ryan Reynolds for Jeremy Brown and Nick Swisher.
Average Reds
Wilmer Valderrama must play Omar Minaya.
sodenj5
Seth Rogan to play The Greek God of Walks.

My wife's cousin is married to Mike Magnante, the formy lefty reliever for Oakland. He was the guy Beane made Art Howe go release personally before the game when he had a deal for Rincon in place; he had given up a grand slam the night before to Lee Stevens and Beane made Rincon switch uniforms in between games of a doubleheader. Magnante had to leave between games and someone went and got his wife and son from the stands so they could leave.
I've talked to him extensively about this, and he said Beane is sub-human. I am curious if the Magnante incident will be covered in the movie.

Jeremy Brown has to be played by Danny DeVito.

Holy shit, that's awesome.

Kevin Spacey as Art Howe.

Bleah - Brad Pitt would be awful as Beane.

I'd go with this guy:

keyalyn
Theres no way they'll spend a lot of money on popular, big name actors. They'll just find some washed up has beens or actors you've never heard off to cast the movie.
Curtis Pride
They should hire actors who are undervalued in their statistics.
