There's Winter League baseball on the North Shore of Oahu? Don't tell me they play in Waialua. That would be awesome.

Unfortunately, no.
Although there is no particular logic to it the North Shore Honu's homefield is in Waipahu, which is about 15 miles west of central Honolulu.

Navarro: .264 / .328 / .340 in 58 PA, but 8-21, 2B, HR, BB in his last 5 games after starting 6-32 with no XBH and 4 BB.

Kalish: .275 / .431 / .375 with 10 SB, 0 CS. Went 1-12, 6 BB, 4 SB in his first 4 games, 7-10, 2B, HR, SB in his next 2, and 3-18, 8 BB, 5 SB in his last 5. Kevin Goldstein at BP: "It might be nothing, it might be totally small sample size, it might be an aggressive manager, but Kalish has suddenly turned into Rickey Henderson . . . He certainly has the tools to do what he's doing, and if this is some kind of new indication of what he's becoming, that's a good thing."

Capellan: 12 IP, 23 H, 12 R/ER, 2 HR, 4 BB, 11 K, 1.75 G/F.

Richardson: 9.2 IP, 10 H, 4 R/ER, 1 HR, 6 BB, 12 K, 1.80 G/F.

Despite Kalish's league leading stolen base totals he has only played in 13 of 20 games for the Honu and many of these have come at DH. FWIW, I was at the game today and Kalish was once again not in the lineup. I happened to meet a scout at the game and asked him if he had heard any explanation for why Kalish hasn't been playing the field. He told me that he had heard that he had some discomfort in his elbow that effected his ability to throw from the outfield...

BTW, the same scout when asked about his assessment of Yamaico Navarro responded by saying "I'll tell you one thing, Navarro certainly likes Navarro" and went on to describe him as "a very confident kid". Although I haven't interacted with him directly I did get to witness any interesting interaction between him and one of his Japanese teammates (each team in the winter league has at least 3 Japanese minor leaguers) that seems to suggest that he may also be something of a character. The other day I was hanging out before a game when he walked by me with a big grin and proceeded to run up to one of his Japanese teammates and surprise him with a hug. Although I don't know what they could have been saying to each other (the Japanese guys speak virtually no English) they appeared to be laughing and joking with each other the entire time they walked across the field to the bullpen/batting cages...

I'm going to be in HI in two weeks and I'm looking forward to going to some of these games.

Nice article on Dustin Richardson from this mornings Honolulu Advertiser. Richardson has been playing great in 11 games, 17 innings, out of the pen for the North Shore Honu. He appeared on reality show Knight School, and apparently Knight liked what he saw, maybe we can see some Bob Knight fire out of the pen.

QUOTE
With hoops in his past, Richardson is having a great experience in Hawaii Winter Baseball. Used solely in relief, he is 0-1 with a 2.12 earned run average in 17 innings from 11 appearances. He has struck out 24 and walked six. Boston's fifth-round pick in 2006 out of Texas Tech has gotten by with his 90-mph fastball.
Could Richardson emerge as a legit prospect coming out of the pen if he can improve his change and curve and work on mixing in his pitches better, rather than relying on the heater?
QUOTE

"Mostly developing my secondary pitches," he said when asked what he wanted to accomplish here. "Getting ahead of hitters, getting my breaking ball over the plate."

One of the items mentioned was this:

Major League Baseball general managers voted at their winter meetings last week to consolidate minor-league off-season operations in Arizona, which means top-level prospects are no longer available for HWB.

I wonder if that means they will be expanding the Arizona Fall League. Also, what does this portend for the fall training period the Red Sox have in Fort Myers?
