The Stockton Ports captured the 2008 California League Championship with a 9-3 victory Sunday night at Clear Channel Stadium in Lancaster, beating the JetHawks 3-1 in the Championship series.

The Ports broke a 1-1 game open with a six-run seventh inning keyed by a grand slam from third baseman Chris Carter. Carter added a solo homerun in the top of the ninth.

Lancaster held a brief 1-0 lead. Aaron Reza and Matt Sheely began the fifth inning with singles. Reza came home with the game’s first run on a Yamaico Navarro sacrifice fly.

Stockton evened the score against starter Blake Maxwell in the top of the sixth. Maxwell allowed just one run in 5.2 innings, striking out seven Ports without issuing a walk.
