Team: Gulf Coast League Red Sox
Record: 28-27 (8 1/2 GB in GCL South)
The GCL Red Sox had a thoroughly mediocre season... but was able to pull out an over .500 record (They were the closest of the 7 Sox Minor League affiliates to failing to accomplish this goal). However, wins and losses are not the primary goal of the GCL, developing players is. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the GCL... and the nature of signing draft picks, it is hard to evaluate how well players did progress. So... let's get down to the business of looking at players.
Most Valuable Player: Michael Almanzar - The young Domincan was a revalation in his first professional season, playing in only 23 games before being promoted to Full Season Greenville to complete the season. Michael put up a line of .348/.414/.472 with 6 doubles, a triple and a HR; walking 8 times and striking out 15 times. Led the team in Average, OBP and Slugging among players with at least 30 At Bats.
Most Valuable Pitcher: Justin Kehrt - Not the sexiest prospect, this 2009 Draftee started in 8 of the 11 games he pitches, throwing a team high 50 2/3 innings. Kehrt put up a 3-2 record with a save, a 2.84 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. Kehrt walked only 7 batters while striking out 44.

The Other Offensive Players:
"Full" Timers (Those with at least 20 games played)
Wilfred Pichardo - Wilfred was the accumlation leader for the team, leading in games played (52), hits (60), AB (202), Runs (36), Total Bases (68), Strike Outs (47)... putting up a line of .297/.357/.337 with 4 doubles, 2 triples and 18 walks. But, what Wilfred is most known for is his speed... stealing a league high 42 bases (and being caught a league high 9 times... as much as the rest of the Red Sox team combined!)
Joantoni Garcia - The infielder played in 46 games, batting .253/.325/.329 with 8 doubles, a HR, 17 walks and 34 strikeouts.
Chih-Hsiang Huang - The former middle infielder moved over to be (primarily) a first baseman, playing in 42 games and batting .248/.344/.383 with a team high 12 doubles and a team high 20 walks.

Eddie Lora - Called up to be the first baseman after starting the year in the DSL, Eddie did something utterly amazing... he went 0/32 with 2 walks and 12 Ks. That equates to a line of .000/.086/.000. He was subsequently sent back to the DSL... where he started to hit again.
Peter Gilardo - The catcher spent 8 games in Florida; batting .294/.455/.353 with a double, 4 walks and 5 Ks. Pete also pitched an inning for the Sox, walking 2 and striking out one.
Carson Blair - Blair played in 6 games after signing at the deadline, batting .409/.391/.591 with a double and a HR. Blair did not walk for the Sox (but did hit a SF... thus having a higher BA than OBP) and struck out 5 times.
Peter Hissey - Hissey also signed at the deadline, playing in 6 games and batting .238/.385/.286. Hissey walked 4 times and stole 3 bases in those 6 games.
Rafael Cabreja - Cabreja spent 4 games in Florida, batting .357/.357/.500 with 2 doubles and 3 strikeouts.

The team as a whole was near the middle of the league in most batting stats. They were third in the league in Stolen Bases (103) and 1st in the league in SB% as they were only caught 18 times.
