Jethawks

QUOTE
The Lancaster JetHawks scored two runs in their final turn at bat to pull out a wild 10-8 victory Wednesday night over the Lake Elsinore Storm to clinch the team’s second division championship. Lancaster’s only other trip to the California League finals was in 2004.

With the score tied 8-8, and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, shortstop Yamaico Navarro lined a single into rightfield to bring home Reid Engel with the go-ahead run. Navarro scored on an infield hit from first baseman Michael Jones to make the margin 10-8.

The JetHawks scored first tallying two runs in the bottom of the second. Aaron Reza had the big hit, singling into left to drive in catcher Luis Exposito with the game’s first run.

However, the Storm rallied for five runs chasing starter Chris Jones in the top of the third. The first six men all reached base safely.
Lowell

QUOTE
Batavia starter Adam Veres dominated a punchless Lowell offense, striking out seven Spinners in seven innings and a Spinners rally fell just short in the ninth inning as the Muckdogs took the deciding game of the NY-Penn League semifinal series 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Batavia, by virtue of their series win, will travel to Jamestown for Game 1 of the NY-Penn League Championship Series on Friday night.

Lowell jumped out early, scoring a run in the top of the first on just one hit. Ryan Dent was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, stole second, advanced to third on a single by Peter Hissey and scored when Mitch Dening grounded into a double play.

However, that run, and a fourth-inning double by Dening, was all the Spinners could manage until the ninth inning.

Batavia tied the game in the second inning on a two-out RBI single by second baseman Jose Garcia.

The Muckdogs took the lead in the fourth, scoring two unearned runs. An error by Ricardo Burgos put Batavia leftfielder Chris Swauger on first and he moved to third on a single. A sacrifice fly by Xavier Scruggs put the Muckdogs up by one, and they added an important insurance run when a Bryan Price fastball skipped past catcher Tim Federowicz.
