August looked like a very good month for the Sox ml teams and players (particularly SS's). Here are my five risers for August:

A. Diaz - After a promotion to Portland, he had a blah July, but got hot in August. Here is his August line: 330/375/511. He also may be the single best defensive player in the Sox ml system.

Y. Navarro - Puts up an August line of 385/437/541 after his promotion to Lancaster. Hits and plays SS, 2b and 3b.

W. Pichardo - 18 years old and just promoted to Lowell. His August GCL line was 427/488/467 and he ends the GCL year with a 297/357/337 line. No power at all, but plus plus speed. 43 sb in 55 games at Low/GCL. For comparison, Ellsbury has 43 sb in 123 games. At Lowell, Ellsbury had 23 sb in 35 games. Pichardo may never develop power, but it looks like he already has ML base stealing ability.

S. Pimentel - Goes 3-0 in August with 2.77 era abd 25/6 k/bb rate. After Bowden, he may be the best SP prospect.

D. Mailman - Bounces back from bad July after a good June with a August line of 294/350/417.

L. Sumoza may have made this list if he had not been traded.

Honorable mention - L. Anderson - He is my No. 1 prospect, so not sure how much he can rise, but putting up an August line of 313/451/586 deserves mention.

Fallers - (I hate doing this)

M. Wagner - A guy I was high on in the beginning of the season. Absolutely awful in August with a 132/207/158 line.

R. Kalish - 235/312/397 in August at the launching pad in Lancaster. Reddick, Navarro, Negron, Esposito and Jones all made easy jumps to Lancaster. Not sure what is wrong with this highy touted prosect.

Wilfred Pichardo had more SB's in the GCL this season than anyone in the last 17 years. I read some absurd analysis of his baserunning prowess on SoxProspects.com where it was concluded that he was basically stealing any time there was a base open.

To get a sense (a sense, I understand the flaws, ect.) of how much he is running and being effective I just did SB/(1B+2B+BB)

Pichardo leads all minor leaguers with over 35 SB at .55, the next closest are .49, .48, and .46

Willy Taveras leads MLB at .44.... .34 Juan Pierre, .31 Michael Bourn, .29 Jacoby Ellsbury

Pretty crazy.
