Name: Randy Beam
Born: May 21, 1982
Resides: Bradenton, FL
Height: 6-3
Weight: 205
Bats: Left
Throws: Left
Drafted: 18th round, 2004
College: Florida Atlantic
High School: Booker HS (FL)
Scouting Report: Tall lefty who has impressed quite a few scouts early in his pro career. His arsenal includes a mid-to-high-80s fastball, a slurve curveball and an excellent changeup. Beam has closed since being drafted by Boston, but he is also especially adept at getting out left-handed hitters. Occasionally goes by the nickname "Beamer."

Randy threw a simulated game today, according to the Sea Dogs announcers. Barring any setbacks, he should return soon.

Time to catch up (assuming the servers don't delete this again)
Randy has been quite shaky lately. He has given up home runs in his last three appearances.
May 29-June 24 - 9G, 13.0 IP, 15 H, 9 ER, 10/2 K/NIBB (1 IBB), 1 HBP
Here are the specific lines:
5/30 - 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
6/1 - 1.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
6/6 - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
6/10 - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
6/14 - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER (1 R), 0 BB, 2 K (blown save)
6/17 - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
6/18 - 3.0 IP, 3 H , 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 HRA (in his defense he was clearly gassed in the third inning and left to absorb one for the team) (win)
6/21 - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 HRA
6/23 - 1.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 HRA (blown save/loss)
I suspect Beam's appearances on the 21st and 23rd are the proximal result of his overuse on the 18th. Not smart with a guy who's been on the DL twice this year with a tired arm.
YTD...- 17G, 1 SV, 23.1 IP, 25 H, 11 ER, 17/2 K/NIBB (1 IBB), 2 HBP

Time to catch up again.
(6/24-7/12) -7G, 0 SV, 11.1 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 12/1 K/NIBB (1 IBB)
6/25 - 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
6/28 - 1.1 perfect innings, 3 Ks
6/30 - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K (loss)
7/2 - 0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB (IBB), 1 K, 1 HRA (blown save)
7/3 - 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 HRA (pitched 3rd/4th innings of blowout, same guy hit the home runs on 7/2 and 7/3 (Ruiz))
7/6 - 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (faced the minimum, BB erased on CS)
7/9 - 2.0 perfect innings, no Ks (gets the win)
YTD (7/12) - 24G, 1 SV, 34.2 IP, 34 H, 16 ER, 29/3 K/NIBB (2 IBB), 2 HBP, 6 HRA

If you take away Randy's first two appearances of the year (when he was rounding into form from his tired arm/DL stint) and the last inning on the 18th (when he was gassed) and the two resulting terrible appearances, Randy's numbers for the year look as follows:
YTD (7/12)
24G, 1 SV, 34.2 IP, 34 H, 16 ER, 29/3 K/NIBB (2 IBB), 2 HBP, 6 HRA
Without the above games:
20G, 1 SV, 30.0 IP, 25 H, 6 ER, 27/1 K/NIBB (2 IBB), 0 HBP, 2 HRA
And we'd be talking about Randy as a top 15 prospect.

Since the all-star break:
7/13 - 2IP, 1H, 1ER, 0BB, 2K, 1HRA
7/15 - 2IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 1K, 1HBP (let inherited runner score)
7/18 - 2.1IP, 3H, 3ER, 1BB, 2K, 1HRA
Letting Randy go more than 2 innings is a mistake this year. All runs in the 7/18 outing were in his third inning of work.
