The Sox will resist the temptation, hell they wont even entertain the temptation, to treat game three of this series as playing with house money.

Instead, they'll step on the MFYs throat, leave town up 8 games up on those suckers in the WC and take one last massive dump on the Toilet.

Jon Lester will show that his last time out was just one of those games.

Mike Mussina as stopper? Please.

Yankee fans will leave en masse in the 7th inning, just as they have for the last two nights.

What a fitting end.

Time for my first big boy gamethread. If nothing else, it'll get me out of P&G for a few hours.

Hank leads from the top:

""All I can think about is this game at this point," Steinbrenner said when asked if his team's playoff hopes were finished. "We'll see what happens (today), but the bottom line is they sucked."

I said it last night, but the past two victories were two of the biggest regular season wins in a very long time. Between taking 2/3 in Toronto and being on the verge of sweeping the MFY in their house, I am very impressed with this Sox team.

Just gathering some information for the MFY fans who will have nothing to do in October. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

In 2004 and 2007, the Red Sox dragged many of us through the dog days of summer kicking and screaming, only to turn it on when they really needed to. Maybe that's what's beginning to happen with this road trip. One thing is for sure - last night's Baseball Tonight, where the hosts were lamenting over the fact that Yankee Stadium would be put to rest without a pennant chase, was far and away my favorite episode in recent memory.

Let's shovel the rest of the dirt on their season today.

It's pretty funny that a Yankees blog has the Sox line up a full hour before the Globe does.

Each of the statements below is true. I defer to you to determine which is more amusing.

1. Cody Ransom is starting at 1B for the Yankees.
2. A Yankee fan actually sponsored his BBref page.

Abraham's very good. So good that some of his posters ask him why he hates A-Rod and Girardi.

According to the Glob N'book this AM, Casey is actually still unable to hit due to the stiff neck...

Casey tweaks neck
When Sean Casey attempted to hit Tuesday, he did more damage than good. Casey apparently aggravated his stiff neck, and remained on the bench. The first baseman hasn't played since last Thursday.

Over at NYYFANS they have the hour rule. You can't start a game thread until one hour before game time. No one at this point has even bothered to start one.

Nearly everyone gets put on waivers.

BTW, is the Giambino normally not started against lefties? Why is the sweat hog sitting this one out?

Maybe he needs a mental health day after going into Grampa Simpson mode on Bailey's ground ball the other night.
Dick Drago
Great analysis on YES from Cone and the other guy, noting that Pedroia 'never goes into slumps', and stays 'consistent throughout the season'....why do they just make stuff up? Is there a guy with more peaks and valleys offensively than Pedroia?

Welcome, Mr. Trip! Just remember, P&G rots the soul.

The Yankees are already so rotten that Lester's pitches will dissolve them on the spot.

Did you miss the part where Cody Ransom has a 5.000 OPS? He's in the midst of one of the greatest seasons in baseball history.

Seriously, I think Girardi has been semi-platooning Giambi with the various other garbage the Yanks have been trotting out at 1B this season. He's only started 110 games and part of the Yanks reasoning behind acquiring Sexson was to use him versus southpaws.
Kremlin Watcher
Whoo hoo! It's getaway day at the Toilet, meaning the Yankees wish the Red Sox would get the hell out of New York after smoking them one more time. Day baseball and I'm loving it.

You guys will be my eyes and ears this afternoon.

Kick ass again, guys, and just put the MFYs out of their misery for the season. Lester - time to tune up for October - get back in the groove and pitch a good one.

I think he's proven he has only one valley in a season..the rest is a giant peak.

How the fuck is this not on ESPN? There is disc golf on tv, but no Sox-Yanks. I'm going to grab a quick bite to eat and then watch a stream or something...ridiculous.

David Ortiz, who had two hits last night, is batting .352 with 8 doubles, 3 home runs, 15 RBIs, and 16 walks in his last 15 games.

Uh what? Other than a couple of slumps in his career, I'd wager Cone and the other guy nailed it.
