OTOH, Michael Almanzar has been a disappointment in Greenville so far. We were all excited by his promotion there, but a .221 OBP and .247 Slg. is bad for any league and any age.

JETHAWKS

Game Story

QUOTE
Another strong pitching performance by the JetHawks gave the Lancaster hitters enough time for a come back against the High Desert Mavericks. They scored twice in the seventh inning to take their first lead of the game. The bullpen held and the JetHawks won 4-2, their third straight win and the Mavericks’ eighth straight loss. The magic number for Lancaster to secure the top seed in the Southern Division is now at nine.

Chris Jones turned in another strong performance, holding the opponent to two runs or less for the third straight outing. Jones pitched seven innings for just the second time this season, however, when he left the game it looked like he might take a loss as the JetHawks were trailing 2-1.

The bottom of the order came through for Lancaster in the seventh inning. Zak Farkes reached on an error, a mistake the Mavericks would pay for. Aaron Reza doubled to right field to move Farkes to third. Matt Sheely shot a ball through the hole into right field to drive in the tying run. Kris Negron’s sacrifice fly put Lancaster on top and proved to be the winning run.

DRIVE

Game Story

QUOTE
On a night when the Greenville Drive crossed the millionth-fan barrier, West Virginia closed out a four-game sweep with an 8-3 win at Fluor Field.

The Drive hit the road for four games before returning to face Augusta in their final home series.

Trailing 8-0 in the eighth, the Drive got a lift from catcher Will Vazquez.

Manny Arambarris tripled to lead off, and Vazquez hammered his first home run of the season off the third floor of the New York Life building in left. It was Vazquez’ first game back after returning from his sister’s wedding.

“The guys were telling me I should go to more weddings. We just had (Manny) in scoring position, and I was trying to get him and got a good pitch and was able to connect with it.

“It definitely gives me a little confidence and hopefully I’ll be able to carry it over to the rest of the games.”

Oscar Tejeda tripled in the ninth, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Almanzar for the third run.
