J.D. Drew, who was removed from yesterday’s loss after three innings due to tightness in the lower back, is out of tonight’s lineup at Camden Yards for precautionary reasons.
He said that the back tightened up when he raced over to back up center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury on Lyle Overbay’s double to the center field triangle in the third inning and it got more stiff when he returned to the bench.
“You take one step and it almost feels like a little shock going up your back,” said Drew, who is treating the injury with hot-and-cold contrast applications.
