Admit it. Some of you are already drafting the post to start the game thread tomorrow. You look at this matchup and say, "no chance". Well, these guys hooked up last week and Mr. Byrd shut down the Jays. And Halladay? He couldn't beat the stinking Indians. Are the Sox going to lose to a guy who couldn't beat the stinking Indians? No chance. My reign will continue.
And besides, we all know a Bird always beats a Doctor.

Just arrived at the ballpark for tonight's 7:05 start. Pretty quiet so far, except for target practice in the outfield.
Two Red Sox players -- hard to identify from this distance* -- are standing on the edge of the right field grass, next to Pesky's Pole, shooting arrows into a target about 75 feet away. Neither has missed the target through one round of shots.
Of course, the Red Sox offense has been similarly dead-on lately, nailing Texas pitching for 37 runs in the last three games. They've got a steeper challenge tonight, facing Roy Halladay (13-9, 2.72), who has struggled against the Sox in the past but was nearly lights-out (8-2/3 innings, 1 run allowed) in his last outing at Fenway.
Tonight we'll also see the Red Sox debut of Paul Byrd, acquired from Cleveland this week. He's been hot since the All-Star break (4-0, 1.24). Will be be able to keep it going?
Back with notes from the clubhouse, lineups and more in a bit.
*Update: A pool of reporters in the Fenway press box has determined that Mike Timlin and Daisuke Matsuzaka are the archers.
Dice K and Timlin doing something as a pair -- wow that's a strange image.

MFYs face KC, BAL & TOR before we face them on the 26th, and despite Hank's efforts to persuade us otherwise, I don't write them off yet - especially with that schedule and their new powerful offense, so we need to take (if not sweep) this series . . . . On the other hand, during that time, TB faces TX, LAAA & CWS - so this is also a great chance not only to keep the hounds at bay, but gain ground on the fish. GO for it Byrd - kick ass in your debut!
GO SOX - WIN TODAY!

The Yankees reshaped their roster prior to Friday's game with the Royals at Yankee Stadium, optioning outfielder Melky Cabrera to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and designating first baseman Richie Sexson for assignment.
To take their places on the roster, rookie Brett Gardner was recalled from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and the Yankees purchased the contract of infielder Cody Ransom. Gardner was scheduled to start in center field for the Yankees on Friday.

I'm okay with these matchups. At least we miss Burnett. More time for him to get hurt before we have to see him.
Does that line up the Yankees to see Halladay and Burnett then?
Edit: The Jays would have to skip someone in their rotation, obviously, but it's not implausible.

The good news is that now the Sox miss A.J. Burnett: 4-0, 1.98 ERA, 34/13 K/BB in 36.1IP vs. Boston.
