Phil Hughes, Phil Coke, Steven Jackson and Mark Melancon combined on a four-hitter for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Jason Brown’s double was the only extra-base hit for the PawSox, who scored 11 runs in Wednesday’s win, but just three runs total in their three losses in Moosic, Pa. Devern Hansack (5-10) struck out eight in seven innings while taking the loss. One of the five runs against Hansack was unearned.
•INJURY REPORT: The PawSox could be shorthanded in the outfield. Jonathan Van Every sat out last night’s game with an oblique injury and Chris Carter left the game with a similar injury. “You don’t want to take any chances with those type of injuries,” Johnson said. “The next few days we could be in a kind of wait-and-see situation.”

Whether in Maine or Connecticut, the Portland Sea Dogs can't escape rain.
When the Connecticut Defenders played the Sea Dogs on July 23 at Hadlock Field, Portland led 2-1 in the fourth inning only to have the game suspended due to rain and rescheduled for Thursday night at soggy Dodd Stadium.
After a rain delay of 1 hour and 25 minutes, Connecticut scored four runs in the seventh inning and backed it with solid relief pitching by Paul Oseguera and Jason Waddell for a 7-2 victory.
Then, in the regularly scheduled game, the teams were in a scoreless tie when the rains again came and forced a stoppage with one out in the bottom of the fourth. The game was suspended after a 35-minute delay. It will resume from the point tonight at 5:05 p.m. and be followed by a seven-inning game.
Portland lefty Kris Johnson had blanked Connecticut on three hits. In the fourth, after fanning Adam Witter for his fifth strikeout, and with a 2-1 count on Carlos Sosa, play was halted.

Game StoryQUOTE
Three Brooklyn pitchers combined to strike out 15 Spinner hitters while the slumping Lowell offense could manage just one hit as the Lowell Spinners fell 2-0 to the Brooklyn Cyclones in front of 5,030 fans on Clay Buchholz “No-Hitter” Bobblehead Night, sponsored by Sovereign Bank and Budweiser.
The Spinners have not scored since the 5th inning of Monday night’s game against Vermont, a streak of 21 innings.
Brooklyn starter Chris Schwinden (2-1, 1.02) got all the run support he would need in the third inning, as the Cyclones (26-23) scored an unearned run. Right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis reached on a third strike wild pitch, moved to second on a single by second baseman J.R. Voyles and scored on a botched double play throw by Spinner Ryan Dent.
The Cyclones added a run in the fifth as Lowell (25-22) centerfielder Ronald Bermudez could not hold onto a deep fly ball by Brooklyn shortstop Matt Smith that turned into a three-base error, and Smith scored when Voyles laced a single up the middle.
Chad Rhoades, making his third appearance and his first start on a rehab assignment from Portland, struck out four in two innings, allowing just two singles. Bryan Price (0-2, 1.31) pitched well but was the tough-luck loser tonight, giving up two unearned runs on six hits. He struck out six in four innings. Jorge Rodriguez and Seth Garrison combined for three scoreless innings of relief.
TD Banknorth Player of the Game Tim Federowicz had the only hit for the Lowell bats tonight, and he also shined with his defense, throwing out two Brooklyn runners attempting to steal second base. Seven of the nine hitters struck out at least once tonight in the suddenly anemic Spinner offense.
