tek calls a great game huh? whats that...99.9 percent fbs? fuck
I'm one of the biggest Ted critics here, but Paps must have shook him off at least four times and ended up throwing fastballs.

Fuck me that was a nervy one.

I gotta believe Paps came out of the pen feeling his slider and his split were awful

No doubt, but you can waste one out of the zone just to throw off the batter's timing on the fastball a bit.

Thanks, Gardy, for giving up an out in the 9th.

The result is a W

maybe ... they had no business winning it ... then again, they lost a few like this on the RT

33 and 10 at home -- completely different team

Dude got like 35 seconds to warm up between Moss' hit and Lugo's K. Frankly, I'm not surprised he didn't have any feel for any offspeed pitch.

Big fucking 8th inning tonight. I'm loving how this team has sacked up the past 2 nights after a tough road trip. Lester didn't have his good stuff tonight, but he kept with it and gave the team innings. Paps sacked up and got the job done as well.

Get the broom out tommorrow afternoon.
dcmissle
they've got to change some things ... they can't survive with just good starting pitching, 3 or 4 hitters, and a closer

Moss for Coco is where to start

i think he did a fine job getting out of that jam. sure his walks suck, but at least he punches people out and limits hits. he has not been terrible this year, i think he has very much exceeded the expectations of him not even making the team.
Ed Hillel
Manny really got around on that fastball. As Remy pointed out last night, Manny always seems to break out of slumps after picking up a hit or two to the opposite field. I wonder if last night turned things around for Manfred.
dcmissle
wazzup with Drew?
NomarRS05
This is one of those games where you can watch the highlights three or four times on baseball tonight and sportscenter and not get tired of them.
Foulkey Reese
I posed this last night and while my faith wavered tonight, I stand by it.

I think Tito wanted to get Coco's glove into CF more than he wanted to keep Moss in LF/JD in RF. As far as I could tell there was no injury.

A high fastball too.

And Aardsma pitched well. The hit he gave up was meh.

The 8th? I think the inning can be summed up as: it is amazing what happens when Ellsbury gets on, and there is a capable bat behind Youks.

Absolutely.

If he got hurt and his season ended today, he would still be a very successful pick up for Theo.

Then why didn't he sub out Moss for Crisp?
templeUsox
For those who don't know, Moss was one of the most unbelievably clutch players during his time in Portland. This doesn't surprise me at all.

And, Justin Morneau pretty much locked up that worst player in the game title tonight. This man rocks the suck.

No, I think I screwed up. Lugo made the last out in the 8th and Coco came in for JD. That means Coco would be 3rd up in the bottom of the 9th if the game got extended.

So it now looks like Tito wanted Moss in RF more than Drew--otherwise Coco would have come in for Moss with Ellsbury going to LF and Coco going to CF.

I don't why Drew was lifted in favor of Moss?

I don't know where some of you people are getting this shit with Morneau. He has 65 RBI on the year. For comparison, Lowell leads the Red Sox with 54. Man, I would love to have that kind of suck in my lineup.

I just wanted to record for posterity that Dave McCarty compared coco's dive to being pot committed in poker. He says once you get past a certain point you can't play it safe so you might as well take the chance.

I think we need to take up a collection to buy Covelli a copy of Professional No Limit Volume 1. Dude needs to make a commitment plan earlier in the hand.

I would pay cash money to see Kathryn Tappen licking Heidi Watney.

Really? You would give up our backup catcher for this?

Come to think of it, good idea. Talk about yer win-win.

I leave the house at 9:30 to give my son's bandmate a ride home, and come back at 10:15 to the spectacle of soggy filth. It's an excellent thing.

I'm pretty sure I saw Paps warming up along with Oki when it looked like the Sox had a chance to tie it. After Moss's hit they then showed that he was throwing and Oki stopped.

I think it's even more than that. There are times in poker where people call because they are pot committed and basically know that they are going to lose the hand or that they have terrible odds. It seems that Coco thought he had that ball the whole way and it's not like the missed the ball by a foot. It was a matter of an inch or two. He was a bit slow to react because it was off the end of the bad and was a pretty big swing, but I can't really blame Coco there. He thought he had it and he comes up with plays like that quite often.

question: what was the pitch that Lester used to get that last strikeout in the 8th? I want to say it was his two-seamer but I'm not totally sure. thanks

Starting with the 0-2 pitch, he had:

- a 93mph fastball inside JUST off the low inside corner
- 76mph curveball in the dirt inside
- 87mph slider inside, fouled off
- 92mph 4-seamer down the middle, fouled off
- 78mph curveball in the dirt inside
- 86mph slider inside, swinging strike for the K

at least, that's my analysis. both pitches i've labeled as sliders seemed to have late break towards the righthander, rather than away from the righthander as you'd expect from a sinker or changeup.

edit: might've been his cutter - gameday labels it a cutter - but it seemed to have more vertical than horizonal action, and i associate a cutter with the latter.
Razor Shines
Great, thanks.
