Best marketing idea ever. If I were in the market for some furniture, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

If Tito bought a new living room set there this month, would that be considered betting on his team to win?

This post would have been a lot better if you told those of us who don't get bombarded by Jordan's commercials what the promotion actually is.

If the Sox win the World Series this year, any furniture you buy before some date (maybe opening day) is free.

April 15.

Smart move by them. I don't think anyone is going to run out and buy a new living room set who wasn't in the market for it. But if you are and were considering different stores to go with odds are you will go with Jordan's now.

details here.

My old man just bought a $2500 dollar sectional there. He breached the topic by saying, "Im going to bet $2500 on the Red Sox to win the World Series", so me knowing how it all works asked the next logical question, "What odds are you getting?".

He's getting pretty good odds.

This has nothing on the Chevy Cobalt promotion.

They ripped this idea off though...the Chicago Bears shut out an opponent, and a furniture dealer was on the hook for all kinds of refunds from doing a very similar promotion.Link

A retailer is doing the same thing for the Cubs as well:

IMO if that living room set included a pullout couch, we would have to consider it, bedding. laugh.gif

Except the big difference is that Jordan's has fully insured this... if the Sox win, they still win.

Another way for them to do it (obviously can't, but would be cool if they could) would be to take half the sale proceeds and bet them on the Sox.

Say they make $1000 in revenues.

Bet $500 on Sox... if Sox win, they get (at current 6/1 odds) $3000 on their bet minus the $1000 they owe back to people. If Sox lose, they get the $1000 revenues less the $500 wager. Can't lose...

Based upon the ad, don't make me read the rules, it only includes certain types of furniture. Nifty promotion either way.

Foxwoods needs to pick up on that - then maybe I would go that ripoff joint.
SoxScout
percy's in worcester usually does this with big screen tvs over the summer saying that you get it free if the patriots win the super bowl.

There must be a way to hedge your bet, right?
If you spend $1000 in furniture-you should be able to turn around and put a bet against the sox winning the World Series

That's the one. What were the rules exactly? If you predict the player who hits a home run on the 100th pitch of the game you get entered into a drawing for a Cobalt? Great odds on that one.
PseuFighter
i think they drew a name every friday night and that person would win a chevy cobalt if the 100th pitch to a red sox batter ended in a home run.

Or bet $170 on the Sox. If the Sox win, they get their money back plus $20. If the Sox lose, they're still up $830.

The store in Natick was packed tonight. Sales people were processing one purchase with two people waiting in line to buy something the moment they finished with that one. I needed to buy a mattress and a sofa probably couldn't wait more than another year. So, yeah, I've got even more reason to root for the Sox, as if I needed it. The Saleswoman who processed my sofa purchase said she literally went from one transaction to the next without pause all day long. Funny thing was that she said that Barry was frantic this morning and was talking half seriously about not opening the store today. She said that the response to the promotion has been more than is covered by insurance and he's worried.

People. This is a twofer. Free stuff for Sox fans and gutting Barry and Eliot in the process. Cue the ode to joy.

Went with the GF and got 3k worth of stuff with 12 months of deferred payments...GO SOX!

I bought a dining room table with six chairs last Friday. We were in the market and happened to drive by Jordan's on 128 near Wakefield / Reading.

Although I must have seen that commercial some 3,000 times over the last few weeks, we didn't think about the promotion at all. After paying and setting up the delivery, the guy mentions something about a rebate form we should fill out if the Sox win. That's when it began to dawn, ha ha.

Anyway, we paid for one table, six chairs, some kind of warranty, delivery and taxes - and the rebate only covers the table (which is about 25% of the entire amount). Still - it's what Verbal Abuse labeled free money. Too bad we just bought one of those Tempurpedic mattrasses somewhere else.

Win - win for the customer. Without a doubt win - win for Jordan's. Not sure whether marketing consultant Elliot came up with it, though.

I am guilty of going in there tonigth.. Am in the market for a new sofa. The promo did influence me to go there (although I live very close to the Reading/Wakefield Jordan's) but I didn't buy on impulse. Was busy as hell there though..

I can imagine many suckers are making purchases on impulse because of the promo. I do have to give a hats off for the creativity. Those guys have always been marketing geniuses.

Mrs. 21feet & I just bought a house. We're currently in a small 1 bedroom apartment with Target furniture, so we wanted to start the house off with all new stuff. Needless to say, by the time we were done with the salesman in the Natick store, he was our best friend (6 hours in the store, we furnished 5 rooms). If the "gamble" pays off, we'll be refunded about 40% of what we spent.

The salesman shared some interesting info: apparently, they had commercials all lined up to announce that the promotion had been extended through the first NY series (so the sale would now end this current Sunday 4/22), but the insurance company decided against it, because they were already so deep into it.

We left the store at around 5:00 PM on Saturday, and our new best friend told us they were already over $1.4 million in revenue for the day. Not sure how much of that would qualify for the rebate - like I said we'd only get about 40% back.

One of my good friends does a lot of the print ads for Jordan's and they did in fact cancel most of the ads that they were planning on running over the last few weeks.

I've heard that Jordan's sales are up about 50% over the same time last year.
