I'd collapse as well if my alma mater was facing a juggernaut such as the 06-07 Buckeyes. (emoticon)
But seriously, scary stuff. Hope Bo makes it through all right and is able to enjoy, well watch, the game tomorrow.

FEATURED GAMES
Michigan at Ohio State
Hype finally becomes reality Saturday in first meeting of these two schools as #1 versus #2. No secret that Buckeyes feature slightly better offense and Wolverines slightly better D. Star senior QB and weapons at WR for both squads, but difference here will be in trenches, where Wolves have all the edges. UM run D ceding less than 30 ypg, while OSU’s very good but not impenetrable—at least not for a back like Michigan’s Mike Hart, who missed most of last year’s snaps with injury and will be fired up to carry the load here. Have no doubt that even on a defense like Michigan’s Troy Smith and Co. will connect on a big pass or three, but Hart destined to be difference as OSU can be run on while Wolves absolutely cannot. Motivation not a question for either squad, so the best team will likely win. Despite media love for OSU, numbers and results thus far suggest that team is Michigan. Should be a tough game on the road, but UM has been better team all year and will prove it to remaining doubters Saturday.

It's not sad, Bo knew that this was the biggest game in the history of the rivalry and knew it wouldn't be fitting unless he could be close enough to Woody to stick it to him. T&P

You know, this is a fitting farewell to a guy who really defined a big piece of this rivalry. I am glad that he will get such a grand platform for his farewell as opposed to slipping away in the middle of June and getting a 30 second spot on Sportscenter.
Farewell Bo, ugliest damned helmets in football.

Jokingly, my dad said "they" planned it that way so they have a ready-made excuse for their inevitable defeat at the hands of the Buckeyes.
Now THAT's cold.
*****
Back in the 1960's, my dad and a partner of his published an Ohio football magazine, focusing on mostly the MAC teams, but included stuff on tOSU as well. One day, he was able to get into a private function at the Michigan-tOSU game. Schembechler planted himself in front of a huge bowl of potato chips and a huge bowl of dip, and held court there. Every time he took a chip to the dip, he heaped it up to the breaking point. Everybody notices this after a while and start ribbing him about it. He chuckles and says, "Hey, I'm gonna go sometime, right?"
A big loss for both Michigan and Ohio State and college football.

A punk band called "The Dead Schembechlers," which dresses like Woody Hayes and sings anti-Michigan-themed songs, is supposed to be performing tonight in Columbus as a precursor to tomorrow's game. Given the circumstances, I hope the venue putting it on has the good sense to cancel the show.

While the band's web site is shut down for exceeding its web traffic limit, they have expressed their sympathies to the Schembechler family and I believe canceled the show without being asked.
Stuff like that is just part of the rivalry. This week is always insane in both Ann Arbor and Columbus. No one really wishes ill of the other - I remember when Woody Hayes died he was honored at Michigan. And they will have a moment of silence tomorrow at the Shoe before the game.

I'm a native of Michigan and a UM fan, but it needs to be noted that Schembechler had a brief and inglorious tenure as president of the Tigers. The firing of Ernie Harwell has been widely attributed to him. I also recall him having less than complementary things to say about Tiger Stadium.
Schembechler may have been an icon, but at least when it came to baseball, he didn't have much respect for icons.

TONIGHT'S SHOW WILL BE THE FINAL AS THE DEAD SCHEMBECHLERS: The band has announced that tonight's show will be their final under their name. If they do continue as a musical entity in the future, it will be under a changed moniker. They have also announced that all of their profits from tonight, along with those of Watershed and B.A. Baracus, will be donated to a charity of the Schembechler family's choosing.

Which gives them more class than ESPN. Of all the slimy things that network has done over the years, the marketing of Schembechler's death has to be up there with the vilest of them. It's one thing to cover the man's death as a news story -- and I don't question it's news; nor do I question that the timing of it has a certain surreal impact.
It is another thing to go on and on, as ESPN is doing: not out of respect for the man, or out of respect to the story, but to prime the pump and drive the hype for ABC.

Buckeyes are going to put 56 on the board if Michigan can't cover any of the receivers. Four-for-four on third downs makes for a long, long day. I'll take Michigan's front seven over any in the country. Their seconday is very overrated. As bad as that drive was, it could have been worse, because the supposed first-round pick, Leon Hall, was beaten like a rug long by Ginn.

I just hate Henne. I'm another irrational Michigan fan, I know. He seems to think he's Vince Young, but he has all the elusiveness of Drew Bledsoe.

I think Ohio State can take USC.
What I don't understand is on 3rd-and-7, near midfield, why do you throw a 6-yard pass if you don't intend to go for it on fourth down? The Wolverines need a momentum swing. Now, if OSU drives on them and scores, it's a hole they can't come out of.

If the Pats even remotely think of taking Leon Hall, I hope they watch the tape of that pass play. Let the guy get wide open in scramble drill, then try and arm-tackle him with no one behind to make the play.

The ABC marketing department must just be loving this right now.
