Since Stan Papi and his 1 AB second season has already been mentioned, I'll nominate the embedded MFY Ramiro Mendoza.

As Mentioned Renteria. HATED his stretching in the batting box, like he had hemorroids, on every pitch. hated that he looked scared all the time. hated his stance, hated him in the field, Man I hated him.

Fun with numbers...

Renteria's 3 years prior to his one season in Boston: .308/.362/.440/.802, 110 ops+, 3.9 bWAR (per year)
Renteria's 1 year in Boston: .276/.335/.385/.721, 89 ops+, 1.4 bWAR
Renteria's 2 years following his one season in Boston: .310/.374/.451/.825, 113 ops+, 4.1 bWAR (per year)

Lends credence to the story that he was playing hurt during that one season in Boston, doesn't it? I still maintain that they were too hasty to trade him (especially since they had already traded the SS heir apparent). They handcuffed themselves that offseason and had just one SS produce equal or better numbers to Renteria's 2005 (Scutaro) until Bogaerts arrived.

Perhaps. But one thing I failed to mention in my previous post is that Renteria's 2004 season with StL and 2005 season with Boston were virtually identical.

2004: .287/.327/.401/.728, 88 ops+
2005: .276/.335/.385/.721, 89 ops+

But then he picked it up the next two years. For sure the Sox were in no man's land for years at SS. Kind of like how it feels with them at 3b now, unfortunately.
