I flew out to St. Louis for Game 3 last year, and he was on my flight.  On Southwest, where there's no first class and all seats are the same size.  Let's just say it was a bit of a tight fit for Mr. Thomas.
Sat next to him at a little coffee store here abut a year ago, chatted him up a bit.  Very cool guy, funny.

Did Yost really say he didn't call for that bunt? It was on the whole time?!??

That is such bs - he just threw his player under the bus

You'd think the manager would tell him to stop after the first attempt

So, does anyone know why the Giants have so many ex Yankees as coaches/scouts?

Roberto Kelly, Dave Righetti, Bam Bam Muelens, Steve Balboni, JT Snow,Joe Lefebvre

Seemed like a nice guy.  He was clearly amused watching people get on the plane and have a "Hey, that's Frank Thomas!" reaction.  Especially since the connection was flying out of Chicago, so pretty much every passenger had that reaction.

Moving the Line
To think: The active leader in World Series rings is now Javier Lopez with 4 (2007, 2010, 2012, 2014), who passed Papi's 3 (2004, 2007, 2013) tonight. This does not include Jeter, since he's retired.

Snow and Righetti both played a while for them.

I get that he really enjoys it at this point in his life which is really cool!  I see Steven Tyler from Aerosmith all the time now.  He lives here when not on the road.  Loves taking pictures and talking to people when he's out and about. Saw him and his lady earlier this week at a house next door to his.  Cool dude.

Another baseball season in the books.

Thanks everyone for all the great banter in the Red Sox game threads, the final outcome was not very good this year, but thanks to everyone for making it as entertaining as possible under the circumstances.

Congrats to all fellow Giants fans out there, three in five years is amazing, what a team, what a fun ride.

GO GIANTS!!

Good point.  That's pretty much how the '26 World Series ended, and I don't think anyone would call that one a great ending.
Well, the MFY lost, so it had that going for it.

Everywhere
The only postseason/WS performance close to Bumgarner's was Randy Johnson in 2001.  The dude mowed down the Yankees during to end the dynasty and was absolutely filthy against one those classic late 90s, early 2000s Yankees lineups.  Plus, he pitched on no rest in game 7.

In that WS, Johnson was 3-0, pitched 17.1 innings, had an ERA of 1.04, struck out 19 and walked 3.  His game 2 was a CG SO, striking out 11 Yankees.  He went 7 in Game 6, and 1.1 in Game 7.

Per Mark Feinsand of the Daily News, the official scorer just changed his decision and Affeldt gets the win and Bumgarner the save.

I disagree. Bum deserves the win (not even close) in my opinion.

I've never seen one guy dominate a series that much. That was insane. So impressive.

The Giants were the better team and better managed, period.

Those Salvador Perez ABs were all about the Giants knowing that he swings outside the zone - its not something that just showed up this series or in this game.  Perez' O-swing% was, at 46.2%, second highest in the league behind his buddy and three time world champ Pablo Sandoval.   The difference is that Sandoval is a better hitter than Perez.  It wasn't a choke job by Perez - its just part of his game (as  a side note, I would take him as the Sox catcher next year even after this series - I just might not ask him to catch 160 games in a season - he is very good.  But he has his flaws).

Speaking of Perez, Juan was perfectly positioned for that Aoki oppo field hit off of Bumgarner and the Giants generally played great defense until Blanco's gaffe at the end of the game (Gordon would have been shot at the plate had he tried to go but I see the case for him trying).

There was no choke here - the bunt was bad but the Royals had their chances and couldn't convert.  In the end, this was a very entertaining game seven - about all you could ask of the last game of the season.

Congrats again Giants fans.  See you again in 2016?

And Sandoval deserved to bat .800. Let's adjust his final stats too.

Bumgarner's performance is impressive on its own without artificial enhancement. Actually, 2 wins and a save can be viewed as more impressive than 3 wins anyway.

Agree to disagree. Am I confused or is it not scorers discretion if the starter doesn't go 5? In that case, Bum going 5 through 9 seems to deserve the win. Over Affeldt for 8 outs or so.

Edit: I stand corrected. According to rule 10.17 Affeldt does deserve the win. He was definitely effective in his outing.

Sox Giants. October 2015.

That would be cool.
The rest of the NL has to put some contracts out on a few key Giants, don't they, if that happens? I said before I was happy to miss the Giants last year. Fuckers don't lose.

Yeah, that's all a part of it.  She is pretty hot/adorable but nobody should be surprised.

The guy would be a much bigger star in Boston, NY or Philly.  But he belongs in San Francisco.   He will never have to buy a meal in the City (or the entire Bay Area) again.

Just got back from the game (and the post game after party, where Vogelsong walked right by me with the trophy). Thanks to the jerks in last night's thread for convincing me to go. Amazing, unforgettable time, wonderful atmosphere, and one of the best relief pitching performances in postseason history for sure. KC really is top notch. Bummed out for their fans, who were awesome the whole night, rarely sitting and, frankly, incredibly loud (definitely the loudest baseball stadium I've ever been to). Would love to come back here for a Sox series.

Yes but this one was for all the marbles.  Pedro's was more dominant, but this one….game 7, World Series.  This one was better, I'm sorry to say.  Because…..Pedro.

The Indians had scored eight runs in three innings off Saberhagen and Lowe, but were completely shut down by Martinez once he was put in.  Plus it was also an elimination game, albeit earlier in the playoffs.  It's close but I still rate Pedro's gem a little higher.

Bigger stage does not equal better performance.  Bumgarner was amazing, no doubt.  But take a look at the '99 Indians lineup vs. the .'14 Royals lineup.
