To fill Wright’s spot on the 25-man roster, OF/INF Garin Cecchini was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

When Cecchini got called up last year, it was grounds for excitement.  What a difference a year makes.

Wright apparently took a fly ball to the noggin while doing sprints before the game on Wednesday.

Edit:  Can't believe I misspelled Cecchini's name in the title.

anyone else surprised that Garin went to 1B and they moved Shaw to third yesterday?  I know they each can play those positions, but I would have expected Cecchini to be the better third baseman based on experience and from watching Shaw there earlier this season

Cecchini has always been a below-average fielder at 3B, and the fact that he only played 19 games there this year (after 87 last year) tells you what you need to know about the Sox thoughts on his abilities over there. I don't think people had high expectations when Shaw first tried out 3B, however I had heard on one of the SoxProspects podcasts from earlier this year that they had seen him there recently and were actually quite impressed with how he's come along there, and specifically said they felt Shaw was better there than Cecchini at this point.

I can just see this knock on the noggin becoming legendary as Wright goes on to a stellar career henceforth.

Or I can see the opposite.

Probably more likely the opposite.

I thought the limited games at third for Cecchini was more due to their hopes of getting him acclimated to an alternative position since Sandoval seems to have a lock on the spot for the next few years.

In theory.

Yesterday looked like it was the first time Cecchini ever had an at bat in baseball.
