They have to be the only team ever to do that, right? D'backs have never lost in the World Series and Rockies have lost only to the Sox.

I doubled it because it was a humiliating strikeout.

LOL the mom is like "Oh no, his shirt is off AGAIN."

Speaking of LOL, Sale on the NESN postgame:
"Did you know what you were getting with Nathan Eovaldi?"
"I just knew that we were getting some freaking petroleum!"

Just got a few autographs with my son at the team hotel. Shook the hands of John Henry, Tom Werner, and DD. Everyone was walking on air.

Does Chris know petroleum from gas? Chris’ father going wild when it was probably his mother that dropped him off at little league practices and all that. Cool to see family members going nuts.

Great team and all but it still seems unbelievable they’ve won four now this century.
The last four World Series appearances: won them all. The previous four: all losses, all in 7 games. This is better, like Manny said.

Kelly and Sale struck out the last six batters of the game. To close out the World Series.

    How fucking awesome is that?

After 5 games of bloviating, Joe Bucks call on the final out was decidedly lackluster.

I'm sure dozens of posters have said it already, but congratulations to Marcus Walden and Tony Renda on earning World Series rings today. Can't wait to see you guys on the duck boats!

My parents spent their 50th wedding anniversary on a European cruise during the summer of 2017 and they loved it. My mom had been fighting cancer for 6 years but felt great at that time. On Christmas morning we found her unconscious on the floor in her room. The cancer had gotten to her brain and caused a seizure. She recovered enough that we went to Florida for a couple spring training games but she died in July.

My father's father immigrated from Poland to Boston with his parents as a child in the early 1900s. He worked at Fenway in the 40s when my father was a child. My father still says 9 is left field because that's where Ted was. This year as we gave care to my mother I kept him engaged in the Red Sox. In August I got extra innings and we have watched every game together. We even got tickets here on SOSH for the Spetamber 4 game in Atlanta and went there for the game (Sox won 4-1).

Generally I am a pessimist. Expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed. But this year I have felt completely serene about the Sox. I felt that this was inevitable. My mom didn't especially care about the Red Sox but she cared that her husband cared about the Red Sox. And that my siblings and I care about the Red Sox.

My mom was ready to die. She wasn't afraid of it. She accepted it. Her only regret was that she wouldn't know what happened after she was gone.

Tonight for a while Dad and I were happy. My Mom would be happy.

Beautiful. In line with what happened in 2013 and the tragedy on Patriots Day. To have something you can pull for and lean on in dark and difficult moments is special in many many ways. Baseball is like that for a lot of us. Be happy for and with your family for along time, not just tonight.

I really want one of those caricature t-shirts they used to do back in the day, like this--

Not seeing one :( Oh well! I guess if anyone sees one holla at me.

I will definitely enjoy my 2018 World Series Champions coffee mug though, I know that.

Have been a fan since 1966 and after the incomparable 2004 season that shattered the paradigm we had come to expect, this year was emotionally second to that team for me. They relentlessly pulled for each other and executed as a team, even when individuals hit cold streaks. At the end of the day, who could have predicted the bullpen dominance and Price showing his best production on the biggest stage. He. Was. Nails. Sale bringing Machado to his knees on that filthy, filthy slider was fitting punctuation to an epic season that had so many heroes and unique performances.
Thank you Boston Red Sox and thank you SOSH for adding your inimitable commentary and insights, that enhanced that enjoyment.

I enjoy this forum because after 30 years in the navy, spent mostly deployed, I needed to try to understand the new analytics and their application. Also because you ladies and gentlemen don't take yourselves too seriously and being so invested in the Red Sox. This season was exhausting and gratifying. Happy to see the players and fans enjoy this moment. And glad the offseason has arrived: I have Steve Pearce lined-up to clean my furnace and Nathan Eovaldi coming over to repoint my chimney.

Rings for Renda (who scored the winning run against the Yankees in the only game he played in-- legend!) Dan Butler, Dustin Fucking Pedroia, Brandon Phillips (thanks for that memorable HR, just another amazing game by this team) Sam Travis, Thornburg, Poyner, William Cuevas, Walden (tied for third on the team in saves!) Carson Smith, Justin Haley, Robbie Scott, and Jaylen Beeks (thanks for bringing us Nate the Great!)

Edit: and also of course Hanley Ramirez! Trading him away helped bring us a ring in 2007 and now he gets a Red Sox ring of his own, just like I imagined he would back when I saw him bash a home run for the Sea Dogs.

Rings for everyone!! Rings for all my FRIENDS!!

Pedro said something pretty interesting. Recommended that Kershaw not opt-opt, that he stay in LA, where he is loved, and has a legacy. Mentioned that he had gone thru "something like that" and that the extra money doesn't make such a difference in your life. In other words, he regretted leaving the Sox?
I don't know if he has said as much before, maybe so, and I hadn't heard/read it.

Maybe I missed if this was mentioned in the gamethread, but Varitek also said something interesting on the FS1 postgame. I think they got on the topic of 'blending old school and new school' and he mentioned that their data showed that a high percentage of runners who advance on passed balls or wild pitches ended up scoring runs. I don't know if this is just a result of having a runner advance a base and so obviously they're more likely to score, or if the effect is over and above that. Either way, one of their points of emphasis with the catchers all year was doing everything they could to keep the passed balls/wild pitches down and on the other side of things, being aggressive about advancing on the base paths when possible. Seems like an obvious point I guess, but provides a small glimpse into some of the simple data points they're trying to translate into both technique and in game tactics. Hadn't heard it before.
