Not sure if it helps or hurts the cause, but Harold Reynolds and Girardi were arguing for interference on MLBN after the game

I'm confused..is it better? Because he's clearly running on that side of the base on purpose and he is also clearly stepping intentionally on people's ankles. Who knows what his intent is, but he seems to be doing it on purpose because there's no reason he has to be on that side of the bag. Also, spikes high at second..at least you're trying to break up the play even if it's outside the rules..it is a part of the game. Stepping on the first baseman when you can clearly avoid it isn't.

Why? What does it take from you?

I find this gamethread (and then elsewhere) meta-commentary* on who the 'real fans' are flabbergasting, and sad (see, also, Pats threads). It's the worst thing about fandom on this forum. You can criticize, and be a fan. You can express frustration and be a fan. You can say someone is playing badly, and not be saying that they're back. What is this purity test that some people feel the need to harangue others for? I really don't understand this urge. Like, seriously, why are you doing it?

(*I fully realize that by saying this I'm adding to the noise here. In @Reverend speak, dogs barking at dogs for barking)

No - they didn't speculate if it was sign stealing or tipping pitches. It was just that based on what the Dodgers were or weren't swinging at, they said the Dodgers definitely knew what was coming.

Because constant negativity and defeatist attitudes are fucking irritating, that's why. Especially in the face of how good this team is and what they've done.

Criticisms are one thing, incessant whining is another.

I don’t think it’s the frustration and critique it’s more just the fundamental lack of understanding how baseball works. And the whiny entitlement which it sounds like
The BEST teams win 100 games
    Out of 162
Which means they lose almost FORTY FUCKING PERCENT of the games they play
The best hitters have an obp up to .400
That means they get out SIXTY FUCKING PER CENT of the times they go up
An ace pitcher has a whip of 1. That means EVERY FUCKING INNING someone should get on base against them
This random number machine spins thousands of times over a season and you hope that the slightly better teams have just enough of an edge that it shows
When it comes to playoffs you have ALL THE BEST TEAMS LEFT
It’s nothing weird if most series are split it’s very weird to win the WS without losing games

So I think it’s not frustration that’s annoying it’s reading stuff like you’ve not just seen the Red Sox win 117 games so far this season in a whole number of ways

And when you sit back and realize they are one game from glory

Honestly I invite you to reread this game thread as I am doing and try not to feel a mixture of sick and giddy derision at some of the stuff posted even before we were 4-0 down today

Folks I don't mean to flex but I got a Fitbit.

    I know, I know. I'm a baller.

Anyway, I was working during the bottom of the 9th and my heartrate hit 132. I was basically doing cardio while standing still.

    Christ. I love this team.

I understand people hating the negativity. Of course failure should be expected to an extent in baseball as lapa says.

I just felt the team was dead offensively and it was going to carry over to at least all the games in LA. I was that down about it, they should have won a million times offensively in extras and did not. And it did continue for 6 innings. they fucking turned it around in a complete team effort, but that was as bad a rut as they've had all year.

    still work to do.

My experience of west coast fans is brawls at Dodger-Padre games. Also the infamous Dodger-Giants rivalry. Guessing the brawler type fans are nowhere near the WS.

Kelly. Moreland. Holt. Pearce. Devers. Heroes.

    I can't stop watching highlights.

I am no fan of Nesbitt or however you spell his name but his calls on the Devers base hit and the Pearce double are epic.

    This. Fucking. Team.

Cheesy but the whole team is the mvp for me. All year long they’ve got different players filling in around the big stars stellar season and this series has really shown that 23 runs vs 15 in 4 games with 0 for 40-50 from the top of the order (until Pearce at least) Sale not on form and even the other starters haven’t gone deep into games so the bullpen has stepped in. Just awesome

The other thing about this play is Martinez screwing up an easy out at the end. Bellinger was caught halfway between first and second right in front of him for an easy run down and instead he threw to third too late to get Puig. Puig probably tries to run home if there’s a rundown, but you still have to engage in it. The play was right in front of him, too, maybe 20-25 feet. He should have run at Bellinger. Significant mental error there.

A few points to recap my thoughts on the thread.
-The people who say the game is over long before it is over suck but meh it's a gamethread. By now you should know who the crappy posters are.
-Machado 100% spiked Pearce on purpose, he had the whole bag there is no chance he ended up there accidentally. To make things worse Pearce is the one person I'm aware of who has strongly defended Machado these last couple of weeks.
-Kimbrel has to be tipping again, there was one pitch that sealed it for me. A nice curve that ended just below the zone right after a couple of low fastballs and the hitter barely flinched.

If you watch the slow mo angle they showed, he barely even touched the base on initial contact, maybe grazed it with the side of his cleat. I’ve never seen someone so far left of the bag in my life. He also very clearly angles his heel inward so the foot is angled to directly spike Pearce.

Here’s hoping for a 10-0 game in the 8th and some Machine Gun Kelly.

FWIW, Pearce and Machado are apparently good friends and Pearce's daughter was one of the flower girls at Machado's wedding.

There was discussion of this in the game thread, I'd say the general consensus was that it was interference by the rules, it is not called regularly when there isn't contact with the ball, and Vazquez should have thrown around Bellinger.

It's an indictment of the crappy Fox crew that the topic wasn't even on their radar. I historically have liked Smoltz, but he has been bad in the WS and Buck is a cliche machine who is more interested in narrative than actual on-the-field stuff.

This is kind of the point. If you went out every weekend with a group of people and one guy said "this place sucks" or "I wish I was home in bed" all night, every weekend it would be a fucking drag. You would probably stop inviting that guy out. Maybe some folks can remember "not everything that comes into your mind needs to be posted." The board isn't your fucking therapist; we're trying to enjoy the games together and for a lot of us it's the only place where we get to do so with other Sox fans. LOL at the victory laps post give me a break.

I played a lot of innings at first and can only remember being spiked once. I was late to the bag and my foot ended up more to the middle of the bag instead of the edge. The runner stepped on my ankle and I came up limping. I didn't think anything of it and assumed it was my fault. After the runner returned to the dugout, the other teams manager called timeout and sent the runner back out to apologize and shake my hand.

To me there's no question. Machado was deliberate and this is becoming a bigger problem. Fuck him.

And folks that can’t see the difference between “Man, I don’t know about this move” and “our offense is compromised” is willfully obtuse.

It’s fun to watch this gem with a variety of musical accompaniments. ‘American Pie’ works pretty well. Kermit the Frog’s ‘I don’t want to live on the Moon’ works well, too, and the Eagles’ ‘Peaceful, Easy Feeling.’

I drafted Madson on my fantasy team like 15 years ago. I was unemployed, and spent my days smoking cigarettes and ransacking the waiver wire. This was before smart phones, so there was an advantage to being unemployed - you could just sit around all day neurotically adding and dropping whoever you felt like. Everyone resented me for it, but there was nothing they could do. It wasn’t against the rules. I dominated the league that year, even though the commish vetoed 3 of my trades. Madson had like 40 holds. Thanks, Ryan.

hmm so odd then. He does turn to say sorry it appears after each of his miscues(pedey, the previous spike at 1B, backswing that hit vaz, last night with Pearce).
Seems strange that a dirty player would turn to apologize right after each incident, but maybe that is just part of his deception.
If he and Pearce are indeed friends, makes no sense to try to intentional hurt him. I'm leaning towards the guy is just a dope and not aware of his surroundings sometimes.

JetBlue Flight 504 from LGB to BOS was LOUD last night for the first hour or so of flight. My TV wasn't working but the next one over was. Just a handful of LA fans and lots of Sox fans making noise. I started the flight with about 50% battery and had to watch GameCast on FlyFi during the lengthy preflight ads on the TVs leaving me with about 25% life to catch up on SoSH.

Everyone is different and express themselves differently. Some negative posters are probably the biggest Sox fans out there.
We had people that actually went to bed during the 18 inning game, which I can't even fathom. Unless they had to work the next day, I can't imagine how someone who has followed this team all year, watched most every game, their team gets to the World Series and they make the conscious decision to physically turn off the TV and go to bed during an 18 inning game because they are too tired? Again, everyone is different.
