Fuck you Kinsler, I want the past 5 hour back.
Worst game ever
I’d go Sale. It’s the most consistent with the aggressive approach.
I'm so impressed with Cora in the presser. He's going to have his team ready to mash tomorrow.
The Sox had a chance to put a stranglehold on this series, and Kinsler threw it away. This has been a T-E-A-M all year, and his teammates will have to pick him up in Game 4.
can't pull your best hitter for a pinch runner in a TIE game...big no no
It's weird - if this has been a 15 inning loss it might have been worse. Eovaldi may have evened things up by burning through the Dodger pen.
I simply cannot agree that this loss equates to the game six loss in 1986 for a variety of reasons. Its just not the same. The Sox can lose tomorrow too and they still have a good chance to take the series. The loss in '86 evened the series and made it a one-game winner-takes-all affair.
I feel more like I did after the 2013 Cardinal game that ended on the obstruction call.
We were down 2-1 then and we came back.
This is a bummer for sure, but we have the lead in the series and a chance to close it out in LA.
It would also have been preferable to have Holt still at 2b on a certain ground ball by Puig. Pinch running for JD shifted him to LF.
Unbelievable night. The intricacies of the game of baseball. You just never know what's gonna happen and you'll never see it played out the same way twice. The home team won tonight but it was still a magnificent game. Never thought we would sweep and the Dodgers were in a do or die game. They won, tip your cap and get ready for the next one. We shall crush them and break their hearts and spirit,
This is exactly where I’m at. We are in a good spot and I believe we’ll come out tomorrow and play well.
This post is the equivalent of a walk of homer. You nailed it.
Except I disagree with the last sentence. This team is so resilient.
Two silver linings:
1. Because this is the type of loss from which many teams haven't recovered in the past (e.g. '86, game 7), I like the storyline where this team is one that can do it, which seems more than possible...likely, in fact. In the end this would be a more satisfying championship than an easy 4 game sweep.
2. At this stage of my life, one of the few things I'd have trouble accepting would be blowing a 3-0 lead...someday another club is going to be the second to blow a 3 game lead, but it would crush me if it were the Red Sox, especially in a World Series. Now that can't happen.
Yeah, you’re right. But this was a fucking masterpiece of a game until that Puig at bat. I mean it would have been one for the ages and to have that ripped away by such a horrible play Is tough.
It was the 13th but whatever.
Agreed. Felt like the obstruction game.
Bare minimum it goes back to Fenway. Cora just has to keep enough bullets stored in case it does.
This is an incredibly good call. Yes, it feels more like that.
To Kinsler's credit, he's answering every question presented to him in the locker room.
Wow, 175 page game thread.
One more big Thanks to DrewDawg!
Great work all season!
The world didn't end when the MFY won at Fenway Game 2.
The Sox pounded them in Game 3
They'll be fine.
there's a ton of baseball to go but Kinsler & Mookie are on the hook right now.
Jansen and Baez threw 58 combined pitches. That should take a toll.
Gotta give Cora credit, regardless of the result. He went for the jugular to the extreme. Playoff Tito's got nothing on him
By the time this series is over there will be plenty more to bitch about. If they can't "recover" from one shitty loss then the don't deserve a ring.
Lol, that's right. Damn that was a crazy game.
I really have no problem with this game. Kinsler shit the bed, but they didn’t really deserve to win this game.
What I will say, and think should be said, is that overall — in the postseason — Mookie Betts has pretty much sucked as a hitter. It hasn’t been talked about too much but it is true. He needs to step the fuck up. Fast.
Hector or Brian Johnson sure seem like more valuable roster pieces than Swihart and Pomeranz.
He’s led off games with hits and scored early which has masked the majority of his performance but with runners on I can’t recall much.
The only problem with losing this game is that we lost Eo until game 6 minimum of it goes that far.
Curious who sits tomorrow. Guessing JBJ.
A 9 or 10 innning loss and the Sox win the series in 5 or 6. This result was an unmitigated fucking disaster. Evo Is done until game 6 at the earliest. He used Price. Kimbrel pitched 2 innings. Nunez and X look hurt. It’s almost like you had to manage against something like this playing out. It’s the worst possible scenario. 2-1 is still a commanding lead with a rested team. I don’t feel like we have a commanding lead at all now. Seems like the series can easily go 7 now. Should have brought Pomeranz in in the 11th (or after Hembree I forget the inning). If he loses right away it’s not that big a deal. If he goes deep you didn’t burn anyone valuable. Fuck me I hope I’m wrong about all
this. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. That was so torturous.
Swihart can play first base. We can’t let one do our catchers play first base.
That would be insanity. Sit Kinsler. Even better send Kinsler home to wherever he lives and put Lin on the roster.
I’m sure Kinsler feels a fuckload worse than I do, and I think we’ve learned from the Buckner and Bartman incidents that a quick twitch muscle event in a half second is not a ground to destroy a guy over. I’ve been vocal about being pissed but I’m over it and I hope Boston fans are too.
No loss is one person’s fault. There’s a lot of baseball to play.
The first 34 innings of this series have proven the Sox are the better team. And they still have Fenway and home field no matter what happens the next 2
And our top hitter has done jack shit.
It's been literally one game since he had 3 hits and was batting .500. But yes, there's no denying he had a very poor showing today...the worst game I've ever seen him play in fact.
This is easy. Sale tomorrow on short rest because he's barely thrown in the past 11 days and it puts the pressure on Roberts and his lineup decisions.
Price or EDrod plus bullpen in game 5. Porcello 6, and Eovaldi on full rest for game 7 with Sale in the pen if it gets there.
That’s pretty much everyone on short rest.
the fear is Mookie (mental?), X (one of his lloopy swing slumps, plus injury?) and JD (injury) are truly fucked right now and there's no short-term fix. we're in deep trouble if that is true.
Pork only went 61 pitches. he could give you something on 3 days rest I think.
Drew Pomeranz is going to have to get some meaningful innings, it seems.
I don't believe this has been mentioned, but we're better rested for tomorrow. Devers and JD came out early. Benny only pinch hit. Every bullpen arm other than Kimbrel only pitched one inning.
Their best two bullpen arms each went 2.
Edro starting 5 wouldn't be. Porcello in 6 would be but he only threw 66 pitches. Eovaldi in 7 wouldn't be.
And this scenario has price available in the pen for game 5 and 6 and/or 7.
Do it, Tito!
This is truth.
This is where I’m at.
The Belichickian view of things— if everyone does their job it shouldn’t come down to one throw. Sox best hitters going 0-for is just as concerning. I hope Mookie Xander and JD can turn it around stat.
LET. MOOKIE. PLAY. SECOND.
It's a big help in the lineup for these next two games. Sox can start their best players. Mookie knows how to play 2nd. He's done it for most of his life. I feel like this is a gimme.
