He’s a good-not-great player who the Yankees screwed themselves out of by being too obsessed with The SS Who Would Replace Jeter.

Of course he wasn’t that. But he’s a useful infielder, and he’s had a few good seasons for a few clubs.

Was I the only person who had no real clue what part of the order the Dodgers were at in the late innings? With all the subs, I could t keep track of when the lineup turned over

He was also one of the worst players in baseball all year this season, yeah he's had his moments this playoffs but this game thread (myself included) was hating that he was coming in to the game and would have killed Cora if it didn't work out.

How much money is Jim Rice getting for wearing that World Series jacket?

Or does he just really like it?

Dodgers fans are extra pissed that it was Nunez -- the ex-Giant -- who got them.

Dodgers are definitely the only team that could do that. Grandal ended up hitting 3rd at the end, lol.

Eovaldi ended up coming in when Dodgers were locked into 3 straight righties. :fonz:

His lineups just seem like a really bad idea in the playoffs. You know in 2018 that a starter is hardly ever going more than 5 innings in the playoffs anymore (especially when you seemingly go in with a game plan to work counts and get to the pen extra early), so then you're burning your entire bench mid game as soon as the starter comes out and leaving yourself with no flexibility later on if you need it. It seems even worse as an NL manager because you need those pinch hitters for the pitcher spots.

Nunez was on FS1 postgame with the guys. said Cora prepared him well before the game that a 7th/8th inning PH for Devers against a lefty was likely.

This is so awesome. So that means he’s spent all day thinking about the Dodgers LHRP, and then he comes up huge.

Harold Reynolds (ugh, but backed up by Pedro) said as it was happening that Nunez vs Wood was a bad matchup. Nunez is a notorious "bad ball" (soft stuff) hitter and that's Wood's repertoire.

And ARod went on to explain that Nunez had shared that Cora was the best manager he has ever played for in his career. Until he put Eovaldi in to pitch that inning. Then Nunez decided Cora is, quite possibly, the stupidest man he has ever met.

Ok, part of that wasn't true. I added the words *quite possibly*

The surprise at the Nunez decision here was a bit weird. The Sox were winning the game at the time. I know we are all nervous Nellies but Cora isn’t.

But more than that Nunez is a little better hitter against lefties than Devers and Wood is tough on lefties. Plus, Cora was going to make a defensive change anyway with the lead most likely. I know Devers has had big hits recently but Cora has a year of work to call upon.

To me his toughest decision all night was not pinch hitting Nunez but was deciding whether to keep Brasier in against Machado. Starters have just not been able to give him enough innings in some of these games and he’s often making choices between bad options. He needed Brasier to get his man and Tilt fucking did it. He gave up a run but he got the out while preserving the lead.

Great post. I would add that its just part of game threading for some people to question every single move a manager makes - I think some people reflexively do it without looking at the data or thinking it through.

Regardless, this line was my favorite from what you wrote: "Tilt fucking did it."

But admittedly I love Tilt and his skewed way of pitching to, and looking at, the wider world.

Good point. I didn't like leaving Brasier in, but as usual, Cora was nails

I agree it looked bad but we had to get Brasier through that, with Sale only going 4 we were stuck. like ALCS game 1 with Workman. and for those wanting Kelly to go multiple innings, we saw Barnes really struggle going more than one in ALCS game 5, I think he doesn't want to stretch any of these guys regardless of how they look, sans Kimbrel.

Machado got 3 RBI but a bunch of weak contact all night, and got himself out on pitch 1 against the aforementioned Tilt in what was the AB of the game.

Talented as fuck player but his instincts are not so great. if that's Springer or Bregman in that spot a line drive would have been hit somewhere.

Why did the Dodgers do their postgame media interviews on the field instead of the clubhouse?

There's not enough room in the visitors' clubhouse for the players, the reporters and the rats (and the rats have seniority).

It's a miracle that anyone ever hits the ball vs guys with elite stuff like Kimbrel and Kelly.
