So far this is great for the USA. Germany is the only tough part. Our guys play in heat all the time and travel more than most; they'll find it easier to adapt. Group H, who we'd play if we advance, isn't so strong. Just get us a shit team from Europe.

Edit: Uh oh, sounds like the Watch ESPN app is way behind.

Group G is the group of death, sorry.  Sucks but yeah.

FIFA Rankings:
Germany - #2
Portugal - #5
USA - #14
Ghana - #24

So three of the top 14 teams in the world in the same group.

EDIT:  USA is #14, not #13.  And Group D is also very death-like:  Uruguay (#6), Italy (#7), England (#13), Croatia (#16).  So ok, Group D is better.  But Group G is still pretty damned tough.

So, best case seems to be a 1-1-1 record. Need to keep it close against Germany, hope for a draw against Portugal, and beat Ghana.

I can see CR7 scoring 4 against Ghana now...

With Mexico having avoided the opening match, I can't believe I'm happy to have drawn the host nation.

I had little hope for England before the draw, so this draw has actually cheered me up a little. I think we'll get well and truly stuffed but at least there's little to know expectation in the lead-up.  The thought of Italy in Manaus, at 2am UK time, and Suarez creating havoc against our static defence has me concerned to say the least

Who is the US playing in the Amazon for the 2nd matchweek? Have to hope its the Germans or Portuguese. Assume the Ghanians would be more accustomed to playing in extreme heat.

The only good thing is that we didn't draw a South American side. So everyone in the group will be far from home. And US and Ghana should deal with the heat better.

But seriously, this could hardly have gone worse. #2 Europe, #3 Europe, #1 North America, #2 Africa

I've yet to see Portugal live up to the hype.

Getting drawn with a country that has reached 2 Euro semis, a Euro Final, and a World Cup semi since 2000 is a good thing. Good point.

I'm beyond depressed.

late to the party, oops. Colombia's group is easy too. Group of Life has to be Swi/Ecuador/France/Honduras

what hogwash that Switzerland received that

And they're probably already popping the DP in Parie

The fix is always in for France. Got the easiest seeded team two World Cups in a row: South Africa in 2010, Switzerland this year.

Good thing those teams won't be playing in 2014, huh?

US get Ghana in game 1, the Portuguese in the Amazon for game 2, and Germany for game 3.
