I'm cooling on a Wilfork return unless it comes at very team-friendly terms. I'd really like to see the team get younger and more explosive on the interior line. Easley coming back and showing something would be a huge help.
But why choose?  Vince still played a huge percentage of the defensive snaps and Easley is an unknown.  And the Pats rotate the DL.  I'd like to have the known quantity that is Vince, his leadership after the stomach punch of the Revis departure, the continuity he represents and Easley's upside.

It will depend on price, of course, but that there's a potential recovery and great athlete in Easley shouldn't preclude Vince's return.

Easley and Wilfork have the same designation but serve hugely different roles on the line.  Two Easleys could fit in Vince's uniform.

I never suggested that Easley is my Wilfork replacement, only that I'd hope that he could fill some of void. Don't think he's on our radar but Knighton is a guy who has intrigued me ever since the 2014 AFCCG.

You think wrong.

In a fluid market, the Redskins, Colts, Chargers and Patriots have interest in Knighton.

I'm told former UM standout Vince Wilfork has three 2-for $10M deals on the table from AFC teams. Should be interesting.

Hope it's not from the Pats. I would love to have Vince back, but the dude just isn't worth $5M a year. That's basically the same AAV that Paea just got, and Paea is 26 years old and can get after the QB from the interior part of the line. Vince is great at stopping the run, but he's a 2-down interior linemen that can't get after the QB.

I think it's time to move on.

Vince doesn't fit in with the ratbirds. He's never seen a jail cell, beat his wife, or poured bleach on his kids after dragging his wife from a car. Come back home #75!

They can get him a great bulk deal on Deer Antler Spray, though.

Good for Wilfork, good for Houston, good for the Pats IMO. Right move letting him go, while the Texans get a veteran with excellent experience and leadership. He could be an Anthony Pleasant circa 2001 type of acquisition for Houston. Good luck to him, BOB, RAC, and Vrabel there.

I'm really, really curious to see what he got because its going to indicate what Bill thinks his value really is

Man, that 3-4 line of Watt-Wilfork-Clowney is scary.

Wow. I am surprised he didn't end up back here, but good for Houston and I'm happy if Vince was able to cash in.

Now let's see what New England can do with the space.

NFL Live discussion of this was that they consider Vince a 15-20 snap player a game at this point

Max he'd have a 4.5M cap hit this year, and most likely its a lot less than that.  I'm pretty surprised Bill wouldnt go to 4M for him which really indicates he thinks Vince is cooked.

That is roughly 1/3 of the Patriots salary cap space. I don't think a 34 year old run first DT (who fits better in a 3-4 scheme) is worth that much of your space.

Everyone has a budget, yo.

Is this really true, though? I can easily imagine the total "portfolio" that Vince brings is more valuable to other teams than the Pats at this stage.

Need a price alert for when the jerseys go half off. I'm cheap, but he was one of my favorite Pats.

Wilfork, Watt & Clowney.  Maybe Garoppolo should play that game (half-joking).

My dream is that, some day, everyone on earth will have access to clean drinking water, true equal rights will be a reality, no child will be left behind, and there will no longer be discussion of state-to-state tax differences in a SoSH sports thread.

I wasn't too keen on bringing him back after the injury. I'm glad to be proven wrong, but also glad they aren't pressing their luck on him continuing to be adequate at that price. He's nowhere near the monster he used to be and I don't expect the interior run D to take much of a hit without him.

I love Vince both as a player and as a personality. Glad he had such a great Patriots career. I'm glad he didn't go Indy, and hope he does well (except against NE) with his new D-line mates in Houston. Also very glad that the ending at least appears to be amicable.
