That is correct I would imagine it is still very likely he will be back, picking up that option just didn't make any sense.tims4wins said:Started with a title, ended with a title.
And just because they didn't pick up his option doesn't mean he won't be back.

I doubt highly he'll be back given the Pats current cap situation. They are basically 16 million under with Revis unsigned. They can create some space, but not a ton, and they have some holes at key positions (CB/Safety/OL etc). The Pats are going to be playing with less talent next year unless they destroy the draft.Byrdbrain said:That is correct I would imagine it is still very likely he will be back, picking up that option just didn't make any sense.
Reiss says they're saving just over $8m but not picking up the option. That's about how much he made in 2014 depending on what incentives he hit (probably all of them).LogansDad said:Yup, not unexpected, but a sad morning anyway.
If they are only saving $7 million by cutting him, I think that reduces the likelihood of him coming back.... what are the chances that he signs for less than that $7 million?

As that draft unfolded, I don't remember who in front of us needed a nose tackle, but when they didn't take him, I was ecstatic thinking he'd fall to us. When the Pats were on the clock I knew it was going to be Vince. He's been everything I'd imagined and more. Great Patriot. Sad day.
You mean they would have played the AFCCG in Indy, used their ballboys, and we could have enjoyed the two weeks before the Super Bowl?Ferm Sheller said:He made an interception near the goal line to clinch the Oakland game this season. This was the best move for the football team as Belichick likes to say. As many have said, I hope he comes back on a cheaper deal but I don't think he'll be in a Patriot uniform again. Can't wait to see him in a red jacket to go into the Pats HOF and then the gold jacket for the Pro Football HOF.
Accept the reality, he's gone.tims4wins said:Started with a title, ended with a title.

On one hand, he's a 2x Champ and has 4 Pro Bowl appearances.
On the other, he's only been a first team All Pro once (2012), and his counting stats aren't very impressive (16 sacks, 3 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles).
His role as a run-stuffer/keystone to the DL just doesn't show up in the numbers, and that's gonna make it hard to make a case to a lot of writers.
There just aren't a lot of contemporary D lineman that get into the HOF. Reggie White? Cortez Kennedy? Chris Doleman? John Randle? All of those guys had gaudy stats. Over 100 sacks, in most cases.
