Who's Not As Good As We Thought?

Which teams/units have been the most disappointing thus far this season?

I was watching the SD/PIT game the other night, and even with the injuries, the PIT secondary and the SD offensive line have been more disappointing than I expected. The Eagles running backs have killed fantasy teams across this great nation. The Colts passing game is a shambles.

Who that you've watched has been not good - or, even better - who can't fix one perennially disappointing group? Think of the Pats cornerbacks between Samuel & Revis. Or tight ends before Gronk.

Going into this season, I thought that the Texans D Line would be all world but they've been pretty terrible outside of JJ Watt. The consistently mess up in gap control and have been getting blown off the line in the running game much of the season. Part of that seems to be Wilfork: He looks beyond cooked and the Texans don't really have a plan B in the middle.

I think Dallas' offensive line has been a huge disappointment.  They were regarded as perhaps the best OL unit in the NFL, but they've been no better than middle of the pack so far.  Ranked #15 in run blocking and #20 in pass protection.  They couldn't do squat against the Patriots this past weekend.

Somewhere
Seattle; both their offense (good) and defense (outstanding) have regressed to pretty close to average at this point in the season. And with Marshawn Lynch dealing with injury, it's easy to envision how only one half of this equation might improve. That said, it's a long season and I wouldn't write them off.

To be fair, it's tough for 5 guys to block 8 every play because the QB can't throw more than 5 yards downfield.

Do you think Rawls isn't the real deal or that Lynch would've had a better game Sunday?

I actually think Rawls might be better at running the ball than Lynch given how he was making reads and cuts on Sunday.  Where Lynch provides value over Rawls is in blocking and pass catching.

Offense:
  • Denver's passing game is pretty shocking. Some decline for Manning is expected, but he's basically Trent Dilfer on the 2000 Ravens at this point.
  • Teddy Bridgewater ended the year strong last year and looked ready to take a leap with better talent around him, but Minnesota is dead last in NY/A.
  • I didn't think the Lions would have a good running attack, but 2.8 YPC is last in the league by half a yard.
Defense:
  • Minus Suh and Fairley, the entire Lions D has fallen apart. Below-average run D, bottom-five pass D.
  • The Dolphins with just one sack in four games? Ouch.
  • I liked the Chiefs defense on paper but it's been a tire-fire so far. 29th in points allowed, 26th in yards allowed.

The Eagles running game is what happens when you have a $22 million running back running behind $500,000 guards.

The Dolphins as a whole have been really bad. I didn't think their offense was good, but some notable writers were hyping up that running game this season and Lamar Miller has sucked so far, and they rank 31st in offense. Defense has been even more of a let down, they were 20th last season, added Suh in the offseason and they are 20th again this season. Last season they had a Def. DVOA of 0.5%. This season? 17.9%.

- Denver rush offense. 30th in Y/G at 71.6, 31st in YPC at 3.3
- New Orleans offense / scoring. 7th in YPG passing but only 21st in PPG
- SF defense. 407 YPG and 28 PPG? Damn
- Ditto on Miami and KC defense
- Baltimore pass D. We aren't used to them being this bad. 25th in YPG, 22nd in passer rating, leading to overall 25th in PPG against

Um... did you expect them to be good? Did you miss the part of the offseason where 50% of their D either left in free agency, retired young or got arrested multiple times?

This thread isn't "whos bad and why", its "who did you think would be good but actually they suck"

I still thought they would field a decent defense, yeah. And then went out in week 1 and totally shut down Minnesota. They have sucked since.

But fair point actually if you point to the Ravens - I didn't expect their pass D to be good, it is just surprising to see it so bad.

In the limited Texan action I've seen, I've focused on Clowney. He doesn't seem to make any plays. I thought he would be a huge factor this year, but it hasn't happened.
