Not impossible at all. All we'd have to do is put a claim on Verlander....Which wouldn't surprise me

Upgrading Scott would be ideal. Not sure who possibly available LOOGY's might be. A Quintin Berry base-stealing weapon type would also be really helpful for a team that struggles to hit the ball out of the park.

Is there anything the front office can do the next 10 days to improve parts of this team? They could use another bat off the bench and the pen could use further upgrading.
I'd rather they focus on a bullpen arm. I still don't trust Kelly, Barnes or Hembree at all and would like to see them bumped further down the depth chart.

They are tied with the Astros for 7th most SB in baseball this year. And Nunez provides that pinch running weapon if Pedroia gets back on the field for the playoffs, so I'm not sure if I'd want to see anyone but Holt dropped from the bench, and even then, I'd rather they called up Lin than trade for a one skill player.

Maybe this is impossible, but would be great to the the Sox somehow block the Verlander to Houston trade...
I know the bar isn't high for improving Houston's rotation, but Verlander doesn't scare me anymore. The velocity is back up but his walks have climbed as well, and his slider and change have both lost a little movement. I think he's overthrowing to fight off his decline.

They aren't going to get a reliever better than what they have internally that would happen to slip through waivers. Maybe Beeks gets a look out of the pen, but certainly Smith, Boyer, probably one or two of Maddox, Taylor and Martin should be up to get the top guys some rest.

There aren't many teams that wouldn't trade pens with the Red Sox. Rodriguez may be the odd man out come playoff time, so he's another piece

Roster expansion should take care of everything else. Lin is their pinch runner, Brentz is probably a bench option, though with the roster crunch, it's not 100%.

Roster expansion should take care of most of that. Most of the shuttle guys in the pen have done pretty well and Smith could at least make a few appearances.

Lin is their pinch runner and maybe Brentz finally gets another look.
Brentz and Smith(60-day DL) aren't on the 40-man roster so they'll have to make 2 moves to do so. Guys like Henry Owens and Kyle Martin are DFA candidates so that won't be a problem if they wanted to go that route.

Well to DD's credit here, not giving up on Moreland and adding the only hitter outside of Devers who's currently slugging over .450 on the season has worked out pretty well for him so far.
