Better to be a year early than a year late. The Patriots are a year late on Gronk, Edelman, Chung, McCourty, Hightower and maybe Brady.

    * - Hogan too. That guy shouldn't be rostered let alone play 80% of the snaps.

Well, they doubled them and Gronk had four guys on him on the third down play.

Cannon couldn’t hold off Watt to give Brady time to find Patterson. If he had, he would have been called for a penalty

Gronk had a TD with a good throw on 3rd. Just a piss poor throw.

Red zone offense on the road. Story of the year.

3-5 when 4-4 probably was good enough for a bye. They left so many points in the red zone on the road this year that it is tough to even think about it. They have no red zone true threat. Just a very beat up tight end that you hope is a decoy but by and large to pass for a TD this team needs a catch and run.

The annoying thing is that they're squandering relatively good injury luck as of late. I wish we could transfer the 2015 team's injuries onto this one and take one for the franchise.

I mean, not a good day for those either, but Brady was just awful today. That last throw said it all.

Brady is still elite with a perfect pocket but his ability to move around and step up has diminished greatly.

I'm not saying he isn't... just that the huge advantage the Patriots used to have at QB appears to be diminished significantly.

He is still a top 10 QB. Definitely not a consistent top1 or 2 like last year.
But the entire team is worse this year. All the drops and penalties.
I can’t believe after 18 years that is all being laid at Brady’s feet. He is still good enough.
I would love to see a red zone possession without multiple penalties on the line.

I mean it was bound to happen right? I’d still take a 70% Brady over most other guys in the league. They gotta put more talent around him.

    Penalties
    Pit: 4 for 40
    NE: 14 for 106

Yes plenty of those were stupid false starts. But plenty.... weren’t.

Thank you, you're absolutely right. The ticky-tack calls that persisted throughout the game occasionally get called by an officiating crew every now and then, but it's complete bullshit when they're not called equitably for the same actions on each side.

After the season and the effort we just witnessed from the Red Sox this team is just a flat out disappointment. Dropped passes, blown assignments, no urgency, a terrible undisciplined team.

I think he’s still the best in the game at somethings; mostly on the mental side of the game, and I would pick him over anyone else when it comes to needing a game winning drive, but physically he just can’t throw and move like he could even two seasons ago and it’s a problem.

Guys, they had 7 defensive backs in the end zone. There is basically nowhere to throw the ball. You need a miracle to complete a pass there. My God, did anyone really think the Pats were going to pull that out after they got hit with a bullshit holding call that pushed them back to the 20 yard line? Brady can't go to the middle of the field because of the time on the clock, he can't go short of the end zone, and the defense knows it. Everyone is fucking covered. You basically have to hope for a tipped ball to win, and frankly, I think that's what they were trying to do on fourth down. I think he was throwing to Edelman, who was going to tip it to Gronk. That's how hard it is to score in that position.

We're were all of you "Brady is cooked" maggots 30 seconds earlier when he was driving them down the field like a knife through butter until the refs stepped in, like they did, over and fucking over again today?

It is possible to absolutely love Tom Brady and what he's done over the last 18 years, and also accept that he's 41 and has lost a bunch of what made him great.

Yeah,Brady was not good by his standards. But his skill players didn’t help him.
I mean Ben threw two awful interceptions but his skill guys made some great plays for him.

I hate using refs as an excuse but 14 penalties for 106 yards can stifle momentum

    Define “bunch”.
I mean it isn’t his fault the team consistently gets penalized in the red zone at the worst time.
It isn’t his fault that Jules drops two key passes a game.
Brady isn’t playing like a top 2 QB anymore, but he is still playing like a top 10 QB.
I mean Rodgers sucked today too.

He was cruising. Throwing short passes. That final throw to the sideline was perfect.

Then he just started throwing bullets into the stands? Mix it up.

Stats make it look like he's closer to the 15th rated QB. He's not "elite." He's not a "guy having a pro bowl season." He's more in the "quality veteran QB" tier.

There is zero excuse for the pre snap penalties. Refs probably missed one that shb offsides, but overall pathetic. Couple that with drops and horrible run defense.

Brady is just not playing well enough to compensate. He always has in the past.

I still don’t understand why we’ve abandoned White. Guy was nails most of the year. Then we decided Devlin and Burkhead were better options.

He may not be elite but I'm not sure there is an elite QB in the league right now. Absurd drops killed his stat line.
I guess you could argue Luck is elite but that is largely the result of the best OL in the NFL.
I do think it is clear this team needs a scouting and player personnel dept. overhaul.

It’s going to be really shitty. It’s a good think that the Patriots have the best coach in the history of the league to develop the next guy and shorten the transition period.

On the last play, I agree, the odds of completing a pass in the end zone there are extremely slim.

But the other two plays he didn’t give any receiver a chance to catch the ball; that was uncharacteristically terrible. You don’t have the luxury of throwing a safe ball there.

Brady was 25-36 for 279 yards. He had that horrible pick but otherwise was really solid today. The thousand offensive penalties kept negating plays (recall the 25 yard run by Michel that got called back on a crap holding call that Pittsburgh also did all day?) and pushing them back.

Even at the end, they were zipping in foemthe TD, managing the clock beautifully, and then the crap holding call (well, it was a hold but again, that happens every play) totally killed that drive. Suddenly the clock was an enemy not an ally.
