Lewis realizes he wouldn’t be where he is now if the pats didn’t take a chance on him right? He was Bouncing around the league before he came to the pats.

Is that the same Dion Lewis who averaged 2.8 YPC today?

I'd say Dean Pees is more important than any of those you mentioned. He has consistently had good defensive game plans against Brady.

I can’t say I disagree with Lewis’ take. When you refuse to pay your talent, it shows eventually.

That’s how a lot of pro athletes think, and understandably so, it’s not surprising to hearLewis pound his chest and call the Pats cheap. The Pats spend, but it can’t be on everyone in a league with a hard cap and 53 active players, and certainly not on multiple running backs.

We won’t be hearing from them the rest of the season in all likelihood, so it’ll be a footnote.

    Remember the Wildcat game?

Is there a ‘here let me Spotrac/Miguel’s cap that for you’ function?

Who is, of course, another vet. Didn’t realize he was running their D actually.

Let me know when that is.

I love this narrative. Those “always right up against the cap Cheapriots.”

I’m glad they refused to give Lewis the contract he got. It’s what makes the team successful.

They couldn’t have found a way to pay Solder? Or Amendola? Or one of the guys on defense? What makes this team successful is they have the best quarterback and coach combo in the history of the game. It would be nice if there was a little more willingness to spend from ownership.

Wow. Tennessee talking a lot trash after the game, at least from what is posted here. Whatever. Maybe see them again in January? I'd sign up for that.

You know as well as I do that it’s not a hard cap like the NHL. Where do they rank in actual cash out the past 5 years?

You won’t see them in January unless it’s at a celebrity pro-am.

Well, I know it actually is a hard cap, you not so much it would seem. Actual cash is also irrelevant, as bonuses are an important part of contracts. You give Brady 40 million up front it’s the same as 10 over the next 4 years against the cap, but 0s the last 3 in actual cash. The latter means nothing, the former everything. That’s Felger and Mazz garbage they use to mislead the majority of the listeners who know little to nothing about the NFL cap.

You’re confusing the NFL with the NBA.

The Patriots helped resurrect Dion’s career. They did get him on the cheap, but a tad more professionalism would be nice.

It's also the same Lewis that had 9 yards on 5 carries and 2 receptions for 5 yards against the Ravens at home when the Titans were shutout.

Congrats on your SB win today, Ten. Hope you have the same future success that Jax had after their SB win.

If you can renegotiate contracts it is not a hard cap. And I know one huge payout can skew the data for one year, that’s why I asked about the last five. Anyway, I don’t think it’s a New England only thing. I find NFL owners reprehensible for not guaranteeing the contracts of their players even though they often end up with debilitating injuries as a result of their careers, while at the same time extorting hundreds of millions of dollars from the public to finance their private stadiums. I’m sure New England isn’t statistically cheaper than any other ownership group because most of them are. I’m just pointing something out that I see in the team that I follow. I’m not going to be one of those “Every one in Congress is a crook except my guy” people.

This has been refuted so many times on so many levels that I can’t believe anyone has the gall to raise it.

The player brought it up. I commented on it. When players are tweeting about the subject, a comment from a poster doesn’t rise to the level of “gall”.

So the whole league is cheap? Including Tennessee who signed Lewis? What’s your point?

Wasn't necessarily a shot at you. Though the fact that you agreed with him is an indictment.

A hard cap means a team absolutely cannot spend more than the cap, which is what the NFL has set up. The NBA is a soft cap, as teams can go over the cap, they just have penalties. All teams under the new CBA are required to spend 90% of the cap over a 5-year span, so the money is being spent, and the Pats are constantly at or around the cap, so they are spending. Teams that cut players almost always use the money on someone else, so where some players lose out, others gain. We can debate the morality of non-guaranteed contracts, but it doesn’t mean teams are being cheap. And in the Pats case, where they are often construed as “cheap” is just them spreading out resources across more players than a select few in order to build for depth.

The cash thing is more random than anything. Some years it might be 200 and others it might be 125, but in the end it’s going to average out to whatever their cap hits have been over time. As the Pats are consistently against the cap, they are spending the cash. As I mentioned before, there’s a 90% long-term floor, so they all are. Pats probably average 97%, or somewhere in that area, and the remaining space is kept open for flexibility to make moves. They are not cheap, from ownership to GM.

So turns out Dion is pretty big douchebag huh?

We gave him a shot, paid him, and he won a super bowl - and this is the shit he says? I get cheap quote, but this is bullshit
