I think you're probably right, but I don't think that's the entire equation, because they would still have the chance in the shootout if they don't give up an empty net goal.

Two things, one, you have to factor in your opponent. And in yesterday's case the Flyers historically suck in the SO. I think they still have the worst record despite the recent suck streak the Devils went on as well as the Bs run of recent futility. And two, taking away the loser point in that scenario is an incredibly stupid rule. A team pulling its goalie in OT would be pretty exciting (I think it's happened a few times, pre shootout obviously). Why kill that possibility?
For the record I'm still pissed. I haven't hated the Bs this much since the Whalers were still the Whalers. Damn it.
