Umass is about to kickoff its first season as an FBS Independent by playing #25 Florida in the Just renamed Steve Spurrier Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Lets ruin the renaming day for the Ol' Ball Coach by beating the 35 point spread!

Or, probably not.

Only down 10-7 after 3. Defense is really hanging in there. Need the offense to come up with something in the last quarter. This is a winnable game.

That was a real pleasant surprise. Offense needs some work on the skill positions, but the defense was quite disciplined and held up quite well.

I expected to lose that game by a rather substantial margin, instead the toughness of that performance has made me cautiously optimistic that we might move forward this year.

I was at the Sox game so didn't get to see a whole lot of this one but from what I did see I was impressed with Ford. Looks like Whip made a good decision at QB. Only had to wait until the 3rd week to get the first W this time. Progress!

Umass 14-Mississippi St. 13 at the half. I am shocked and utterly delighted.

Team could have easily packed it in when it was 41-21 but we have a game. Offense has played great today.

Well now its over. Still, I consider this, probably irrationally, a moral victory. We have gone hammer and tongs with two SEC teams this year an have not been punked of the field.

I feel the same way and I feel a lot better about the offense after today's game. The good news is that there's only one P5 team left on the schedule the rest of the way so have some winnable games coming up. Gotta take care of business against Tulane next Saturday.

Up 14-10 at the half against Tulane. Scored twice in the first 4 minutes and were essentially dominated by Tulane after that. Not so great a look. Hope they figure out a better approach at the half.

it feels like UMass loses every game by one score or less the past couple seasons. Eventually the luck will have to go on their side
They just make stupid mistake after stupid mistake. Its utterly maddening to watch this team, because they just repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot. In the midst of doing so currently.

UMass lost to Hawaii 46-40. Led 26-24, tied 40-40. Another close game. They are either going to start winning these next year, or stay perpetually snakebit

edit- 2-13 the last three seasons in games decided by 8 pts or less
2014 0-5
2015 1-4
2016 1-4

Interesting to note that as of today, there are no games scheduled for Gillette next season. The only real marquee game is Tennessee and that is in Knoxville.
